DATE/TIME: Friday, Oct. 21 | 6:00 p.m
LOCATION: Tippin Natatorium l Clarion, Pa.

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University women's swimming and diving team, powered by quality returners and impact newcomers, opens the 2022-23 dual meet season on Friday night at Clarion University. The team's first event of the season was earlier this month on Oct. 2 at the Buffalo State Bengal Relays, where they combined with the men's team to win all nine co-ed mixed relays. Divers Nicole Spiegel (East Amherst, N.Y./Clarence) and Alexandra Briggs (Newark, N.Y./Newark Senior High) competed in both the mixed 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, with Briggs notching the higher score (158.95 to 154.15) in 1-meter diving. In the 3-meter diving event, though, it was Spiegel claiming third place with a 165.40 and Briggs in fourth with 150.45.

The last time Gannon and Clarion faced off in a dual meet was during the 2020-2021 season, with Gannon claiming the 120-113 win and eight first-place finishes on the day. Current team member Francesca Nemetz (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield Area) picked up the first two wins of her collegiate career in the 200 and 500 freestyle events at that dual, with Irati Arzalluz (Lasarte-Oria, Spain/Santo Tomas Lizeoa) and Alex Panneman also part of the first-place 200 medley and 400 freestyle relay quartets.

Clarion enters the dual 2-0 in 2022-23 after victories over Lock Haven and Grove City College at last weekend's Clarion Fall Classic. Standout Golden Eagles freshman Joslyn Jurski won five events (the 100, 200, 500, and 1650 freestyle events as well as the 200 individual medley.)

With the start of a new season, the NCAA and PSAC Qualifying Standards have been updated and can be viewed here.

The Golden Knights are scheduled to swim another dual meet at RIT on Saturday, Nov. 5 before preparing for Cleveland State's three-day Magnus Cup from Nov. 17 to Nov. 19.
