First-place women's soccer team prepares to host Edinboro on Wednesday

Gannon looks to maintain or expand 2-point lead in PSAC West standings

The Gannon women's soccer team enters the final stretch of the regular season in first place in the PSAC West and in position to soon clinch a playoff berth.

With five games to go in the regular season, head coach Colin Petersen's Golden Knights are 7-1-3 in the PSAC West for 24 points in the standings. Rival Mercyhurst is second with 22 points.

The top four teams in each PSAC division qualify for the playoffs, and the top two seeds in each division will host PSAC quarterfinals on November 1st.

Gannon begins the final stretch with a home game against Edinboro on Wednesday at 3 p.m. The Golden Knights (8-2-3 overall) beat the Fighting Scots 3-0 at Sox Harrison Stadium on September 7th.

Edinboro has struggled offensively with just eight goals all season, but the Scots have played many teams close, as evidenced by their 1-5-5 conference record.

Gannon has scored 21 goals on the season, led by the seven of senior forward Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria). She scored the go-ahead goal in the second half of a 2-1 win at Clarion on Saturday.

This is a Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
