Benedict Finishes 23rd In Nation In 50 Freestyle At NCAA Championships

Brent Benedict (Corry, Pa./Corry) kicked off what will be a busy weekend for him with the 50-yard freestyle Wednesday morning. He would finish 23rd in the nation, clocking a 20.27 in his prelim heat.
The 20.27 was the exact same time as Benedict put up at last year's national championship. That was enough to push him into the B final, where he finished 16th to earn All-America honors.
Due to the NCAA's edict for its winter championship events, the rest of the Division II Swimming and Diving Championships will be conducted with only essential staff and limited family members in attendance for the final three days.

UP NEXT

Benedict is back Thursday, taking part in the 100-yard butterfly. He'll also team up that day with Clark Eason (Warren, Pa./Warren Area), Luke Engle and Andrew Mahoney (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) to swim the 200-yard freestyle relay. Benedict will also take part in the 100-yard freestyle on Saturday.
