Gannon Men Cap 2020 PSAC Championships With Two More Gold Medals Saturday, Finish Third

THE RUNDOWN

Event: 2020 PSAC Men's Swimming Championships
Location: Graham Aquatics Center – York, Pa.
Result: Gannon finished third out of seven teams after four days
The Short Story: Brent Benedict (Corry, Pa./Corry) put a cap on the best PSAC championship meet in Gannon program history, winning the 100 freestyle and anchoring the 400 freestyle relay as the Golden Knights finished third in the team race.

EVENT NOTES

Benedict wraps up the 2020 PSAC Championships with six gold medals in seven events. The senior won all four individual events he entered, winning the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly and 100 back, and also anchored wins in the 800 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays, leading to him earning the Most Outstanding Swimmer award.
Adding in Bolmanski's win in the 200 free, the Knights won seven events, more than doubling the program's previous best at a championship meet.
Gannon turned in 12 All-PSAC performances. In addition to the seven wins, Bolmanski finished second in the 500 free and third in the 1000 free, A. Deemer was 3rd in Saturday's 1650 free, and the 200 free relay finished second and the 400 medley relay third.
On Saturday, both Deemer brothers cut more than six seconds off their seed time in the 1650 free to set new personal bests and both finish top-seven.
A trio of Golden Knights made the B final in the 100 free. Engel and Bolmanski finished top two in that heat, and had the seventh- and eighth-fastest times of the evening session.
Beyer made his way into the Gannon top 10 with his 1:53.82 time in the 200 back, and finished fifth in the finals. Zachary Werstler (Massillon, Ohio/Jackson) (13th) and Justin Decheck (Plum Borough, Pa./Plum Senior) (15th) each made the B final.
David Gallion (Arlington, Va./Homeschooled) got into the top 10 with his 2:10.24 time in the B final of the 200 breaststroke, where he would finish 13th.
The 400 free relay capped the night with the second relay win of the weekend for Gannon. In third place when Benedict took off, he turned in the fastest split of the race to allow the Knights to win by nearly a second.

UP NEXT

The NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships selections will be released Wednesday. Benedict has locked up a spot at nationals.
