HOW IT HAPPENED

BUFFALO DUAL

125
Jacob Dunlop (Belle Vernon, Pa./Belle Vernon) connected on a single-let to get the opening takedown, then turned Buffalo's Jordan Reyes twice with tilts to build an 8-0 lead. Reyes got a takedown in the second, but Dunlop chose top in the third and rode him out to grab a 14-2 major.

133
Andrew Ischo (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) ran into the 15th-ranked Division I wrestler in the country in Buffalo's Derek Spann, and Spann controlled throughout. A first-period takedown and two turns got things going, and Spann closed out a tech fall with a tilt midway through the second.

141
Nick Young (Batavia, N.Y./Alexander) fought through an early deficit to make a match of it against Marcus Robinson. He got an escape in the third period, then countered a Robinson shot to get a takedown of his own to get within 8-5, but Young wasn't able to turn him as Robinson sealed up the win by decision.

149
Dom Means (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic) gave up an early takedown, but was the aggressor from there, escaping then taking the bulk of the shots through the second period. Buffalo's John Arceri was able to fight those off though, and a second takedown midway through the third period proved just enough to earn a 6-3 decision.

157
Evan Fisler (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) didn't give up much to UB's Michael Petite, and managed to spin around for a reversal in the third period to get things to within three points. He had to cut Petite, and nearly got a takedown at the edge in the final seconds, but Petite closed out a 7-3 decision.

165
Buffalo's Troy Keller was in control through much of the bout, but Alex Farenchak (Painesville, Ohio/Riverside) kept things close after giving up six points in the first period. Farenchak nearly had a crucial takedown to keep it inside a major in the third, but it was wiped out on video review and Keller held on for a 10-0 victory.

174
Connor Day (Elma, N.Y./Iroquois Central) was active from the start, and slipped around the side for the opening takedown midway through the first period against Jake Lanning. He took advantage of that position, wrapping up a cradle and tossing Lanning over for the fall in 1:47 to get the Golden Knights back in it.

184
Joel Leise (Transfer, Pa./Reynolds) chose top in the second period and rode out Lars Schafle, but Schafle won the bout on his feet, getting three takedowns in the first period. Leise escaped each time, and ended up getting the riding time point, but couldn't make up enough offense in an 8-4 decision.

197
Jud Ramage (Kipling, Ohio/Meadowbrook) did a good job countering shots from Sam Schuyler, but Schuyler converted two first-period takedowns and added another in the third to build a lead. Ramage only allowed a single point from there on out, but it was enough to secure a 9-1 major.

285
Gehrig Hutchison (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), who was giving up nearly 70 pounds to Buffalo's Nolan Terrance, put up a fight, but wasn't able to get out from under after a takedown in the opening period. Neutral in the second, Hutchison went for it, trying to toss Terrance, but Terrance finished on top, recording the fall in 3:58.

EDINBORO DUAL

125
Edinboro got a forfeit to start things off.

133
Austin Hertel (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) pushed hard against Tye Varndell, but the Edinboro grappler proved tough to get on his heels. Late points in the third period allowed the Fighting Scots to get bonus points in the first contested bout of the afternoon with an 8-0 major.

141
Young hung in there with Nate Hagan, getting within a point with an escape early in the third period. He kept going after it, but Hagan countered a shot to get a takedown, and added another in the final seconds to make an 8-3 decision look wider than it was.

149
Tyler Vath notched two slick takedowns in the first period for Edinboro against Dom Means (Pittsburgh, Pa./Central Catholic). He added another early in the second and went up 9-2 with another later in the frame on his way to a 13-3 major.

157
Fisler conceded the first takedown, but he popped out less than a minute later, then nearly won a flurry to go ahead, but he and Edinboro's Peter Pappas landed out of bounds. Late in the second, Pappas wrapped the ankles for a takedown, but Fisler escaped to tie it up at 4-4 on a restart just before the buzzer. In another wild flurry, Pappas came out on top, allowing him just enough space to close the 8-5 decision.

165
Farenchak thwarted a number of shots from Derek Ciavarro in the first period, and escaped 20 seconds into the second to score the first point. Ciavarro spun around and wrapped up legs for the first takedown, and built a 4-2 lead headed into the third before turning that into a 10-4 win.

174
Luigi Yates (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) gave up a takedown in the first period, but escaped, then rode Edinboro's Jacob Oliver for over a minute of the second period. Yates trailed just 4-1 heading into the third period, but Oliver wouldn't let Yates get back on top, putting together three takedowns in the third for an 11-3 major.

184
Leise gave up a pair of first-period takedowns, but escaped from under Cody Mulligan each time to trail just 4-2. Mulligan got an escape to start the second, but Leise followed that up with a takedown, and pushed the rest of the way, but Mulligan held on to squeak by with an 8-6 decision.

197
Freddie Nixon (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) popped right back out after giving up the first takedown against Dylan Reynolds, and a quick escape to start the second tied things up at 2-2. That score remained going into the third, when Reynolds registered a takedown and held Nixon off to squeak by in a 5-3 decision.

285
Brad Crislip (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna) got the nod for the Golden Knights, but Jon Spaulding was able to get the first takedown, and managed to crank Crislip over with an arm to close the afternoon with a fall.
