Benedict Continues Assault On Record Book, Helping Set Six New Marks At Magnus Cup

EVENT NOTES

Benedict had quite the weekend leading off relays. The senior established both a Gannon program record and Magnus Cup meet record with a 19.73 in the 50 free as the leadoff leg of the 200 free relay, a mark that guaranteed his return to the NCAA Championships as an NCAA A cut time. His impressive run continued with a school record in the 100 free (44.68) as the leadoff leg of the 400 relay and the 200 free (1:39.25) to start the 800 relay.
He joined Ekas, Engel and Eason to set a meet record and grab an NCAA provisional qualifying time with a 1:20.73 in the 200 free relay, which also smashed the previous Gannon record by more than 2.5 seconds.
The 400 free relay (3:02.53) and 200 medley relay (1:31.87) also set new program standards.
The Golden Knights saw 12 individuals make the A finals over the weekend, led by Benedict's two wins in the 50 free and 100 fly and a third in the 200 back.
Gannon put three in the top five in the 50 free, with Eason finishing third and Engel fifth.
Four relays – the 200 free (2nd), 400 free (2nd), 800 free (3rd) and 200 medley (3rd) all finished in the top three.
The Golden Knights recorded 39 PSAC qualifying times and seven NCAA times.

UP NEXT

Gannon takes the Thanksgiving weekend off before jumping back into dual competition with a PSAC meet at Indiana on Dec. 6.
