GANNON STORYLINES/NOTES
  • The Knights learned Monday night that they would enter the NCAA Tournament as the No. 2 seed in Super Region 1 and would host the first and second rounds.
  • Gannon is coming off a PSAC Tournament appearance. They earned the first seed on the West side after clinching their first PSAC regular season title vs. Mercyhurst in the final week of the regular season.
  • The Knights took on East No. 2 West Chester in the semifinals and escaped with a 2-1 overtime win. The Golden Rams struck first in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 advantage. The Knights wouldn't score until the 86th minute to tie the game. Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) sent a throw into the box that was headed out by a West Chester defender. Sergio Del Castillo (Madrid, Spain) was there on the deflection to send the ball into the upper left corner of the goal. Joe Knox (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) would get the game winner in the 97th minute to send Gannon to the championship.
  • Millersville eventually took a 1-0 win over the Knights to repeat at PSAC Champions. Gannon took nine shots with two on goal in the loss and were led by Lee Yaw with three.
  • Over the past two weeks, the Knights have collected an abundance of yearly awards. They swept the PSAC West Awards with head Coach Billy Colton being named PSAC West Coach of the Year, Lee Yaw being named PSAC West Athlete of the Year, Chandler Hallwood (Halifax, England/Woodhouse Grove) earning PSAC West Defensive Player of the Year, and Sergio Castillo nabbing PSAC West Freshman of the Year. Austin Ludwik (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School), Chad Barrick (Gahanna, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln), and Ivan Manfredi (Chiavari, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Marconi Delpino) joined Lee Yaw and Hallwood on the All-Conference First Team, while Lennox Crews (Offenbach, Germany/Leibnizschule) joined Castillo in the Second Team
  • Earlier this week, Lee Yaw was named the D2CCA Atlantic Region Player of the Year and joined Barrick as a First Team All-Region selection. Ludwik, Hallwood, and Castillo earned second team honors.
  • James Randall (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame Catholic Secondary School) was named the PSAC Men's Soccer Champion Scholar Athlete prior to the semifinal game in the PSAC Tournament. This is Randall's first career-award. He is working towards is Bachelor's Degree in Finance and holds a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.
  • Randall and Ludwik were also named to the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-District Team earlier this month.
