GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • California (Pa.) jumped out to a 3-0 lead with two runs during the bottom of the second inning and one more in the third.
  • Gannon got on the board with a pair of runs during the top of the fourth inning. Redshirt sophomore Nate Cardy (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) drew a lead-off walk, moved to third on a single by junior Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) and scored on a grounder by freshman Elijah Quiceno (Berryville, Va./Stonebridge). Cox followed with the second run on an RBI ground-out by junior Cody Callaway (Elyria, Ohio/Midview).
  • The Golden Knights drew even during the top of the sixth inning. Redshirt freshman Jared Beach (McDonald, Pa./Canon-McMillan) worked a lead-off walk and moved into scoring position on another Cox single. Two batters later, Callaway's two-out RBI single to center field tied the contest.
  • California (Pa.) had a chance to move ahead with runners on the corners during the bottom of the sixth inning. However, Austin Logan was called out trying to score on bunt for running out of the baseline.
  • The game remained deadlocked until Callaway drilled a home run to left field leading off the top of the ninth inning.
  • Cal responded with three consecutive hits after one out during the bottom of the frame. Following a pair of singles, David Marcus hit a walk-off, three-run home run to give the Vulcans a 6-4 victory.

Callaway then scored on a sacrifice fly by Nicolia.

  • The Cal bullpen responded after that with four straight scoreless innings.
  • Meanwhile, the Vulcans battled back to tie the contest with one run in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.
