The Short Story: The No. 16 Indiana women's water polo team scored the first 10 goals and cruised to a 16-4 victory against Gannon Sunday morning in the finale of the Fluid Five.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Indiana came out of the gates on fire, exploding for the first 10 goals of the match.
Sophomore Liz Barr (Honolulu, Hawaii/'Iolani School) finally got Gannon on the board with 1:31 left in the first half, scoring off an assist from sophomore Lizzie Rodriguez (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).
Indiana added another score with six seconds left in the second quarter to assume an 11-1 advantage at the intermission.
Sophomore Alison Cooney (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) opened the second half with a goal 54 seconds into the third quarter. Senior Rachel Bednarek (Windermere, Fla./Olympia) was credited with an assist on the play.
Indiana followed with four consecutive goals, concluding the third frame with a 15-2 edge.
Gannon out-scored the host school 2-1 during the final eight minutes. Barr and Cooney produced the goals off a pair of assists from junior Christine Uht (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy).

MATCH NOTES

Barr and Cooney accounted for Gannon's scoring with two goals each.
Sophomore Makayla Williams (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville) and Barr led the defensive unit with three and two steals, respectively.
Junior Emily Rodriguez (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) started her 13th consecutive match in goal, recording two saves and one steal during the first half.
Freshman Isabelle Vieira (Erie, Pa. / Northwest Pennsylvania Collegiate Academy) played the second half between the pipes, turning away one shot and surrendering five scores.

Indiana is ranked No. 16 in the latest national rankings.
Gannon has dropped four matches to nationally-ranked teams this season.
Cooney has scored a goal during all 13 matches this year, producing multiple-goal performances during 11 of those matches.
Barr netted multiple goals for the eighth time this season.
Uht dished out multiple assists for the fourth time in 2016.
Williams entered Sunday with one steal through the first 12 matches, before recording a season-high three.

UP NEXT

Gannon returns to action Thursday, March 31 against Grove City at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion Pool.
The home opener is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Gannon has won eight consecutive matches against Grove City, including a 10-6 road victory earlier this season on March 3.
The Wolverines are ranked fourth in the latest Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III poll.
