Gannon Acrobatics and Tumbling Team Hosts Concordia (Wis.) Saturday Afternoon in Home Opener

ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon acrobatics and tumbling team opens the home portion of its 2016 schedule Saturday, February 20 against Concordia (Wis.) at the Hammermill Center. The dual meet is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Admission is free of charge with doors opening at 1 p.m. Fans unable to attend can watch the action live at www.gannonsports.com/watch.

Gannon (1-0) kicked off the season February 7 with a 259.685-230.560 victory at Adrian (Mich.). The Lady Knights won 12 of the first 13 events, tying the only heat they didn't win during the opening run. In all, the squad captured 16 of 19 heats.

In its third year of existence, Gannon was ranked ninth in the National Collegiate Acrobatics & Tumbling Association (NCATA) preseason coaches poll. The Lady Knights finished their inaugural campaign in 2014 with a 5-4 regular-season record, before falling to Azusa Pacific (Calif.) - ranked second nationally at the time - in the 2014 national quarterfinals. In addition, the Lady Knights won a pair of national titles in acro individual events during the six-element and seven-element heats.

Last season, the program went 3-5 in dual competition before qualifying individual teams for the national championships in the six-element heat of the acro event and salto heat of the pyramid event.

Concordia (0-1) dropped a 278.420-246.305 home decision to Oregon during its only action on February 7. The Falcons set new program records in 12 heats and three events. The squad also set a new meet record for most overall points.

In its second year of existence, Concordia was ranked 12th in the NCATA preseason coaches poll. The Falcons finished their inaugural campaign in 2015 with a 1-8 record, concluding the year with a 241.375-237.730 victory against Adrian (Mich.).
