GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon struck early, opening a 4-0 lead through its first two at-bats. Junior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) and freshman Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) started the game with a single and RBI double.
  • Two outs later, Aaron Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) doubled home Benack. The Cox brothers then pulled off a double steal for the third run.
  • Gannon increased the advantage to four during the second inning on singles by freshman Ross Dirienzo (Somerset, Pa./Somerset), Benack and redshirt senior Jeff Bellanca (Grand Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute).
  • Lock Haven fired back with three runs on four hits during the bottom of the second inning.
  • Gannon slowly built its lead back up with single runs during the third and fifth innings. A sacrifice fly by freshman Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) scored Kyle Cox in the third. An Aaron Cox double followed by a Kyle Cox single increased the lead to 6-3 in the fifth.
  • The home squad plated two more runs during its half of the fifth inning, cutting the deficit to 6-5.
  • Jackson finished off the game with two shutout innings out of the bullpen, limiting the Bald Eagles to a pair of hits.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Seven of Gannon's nine starters recorded a hit, including four with multiple safeties.
  • Kyle Cox went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
  • Wiesen finished 2-for-4 with two runs from the leadoff spot.
  • Benack was next with a 2-for-4 showing, one run and one RBI.
  • Aaron Cox had two hits in four at-bats, scoring twice and driving one run home.
  • Sophomore Brian Fisher (Coal Center, Pa./California Area) improved to 2-1 with five innings of work.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon snapped a 12-game losing streak with the victory, winning for the first time since March 16.
  • The Golden Knights recorded their first road victory since the season-opening series at Limestone (S.C.) on February 8.
  • Gannon reached double digits in hits for the second consecutive game and seventh time this season.
  • Kyle Cox had a season-high three hits for the second time in five games. It was his eighth multiple-hit game of the season, the second-highest total on the team.
  • Wiesen produced his team-best 13th multiple-hit game of the campaign and scored multiple runs for the fourth time.
  • Benack had his seventh multiple-hit outing of the season.
  • Aaron Cox added his sixth multiple-hit game while scored twice for the fourth time.
  • Fisher made his first start since March 4 when he threw a complete-game 6-0 shutout against Wheeling Jesuit.
  • Jackson recorded his first career save during his first relief appearance since March 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Gannon produced all the runs it would need with a five-spot during the top of the third inning. Four of those runs came on a grand slam from Kyle Cox. Redshirt junior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) followed with a double, before scoring on a single by Oruch.
  • The Golden Knights added a run during the fifth inning on Oruch's two-out, RBI single that scored senior Sean Sutton (Toronto, Ontario/Brebeuf College).
  • The lead ballooned to 8-0 with two more runs in the sixth inning. Sutton brought both runs home with a double to left center.
  • Lock Haven scrapped together single runs during the sixth and seventh innings, but it wasn't enough in an 8-2 loss.

GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Kyle Cox went 1-for-4 with one run and four RBIs.
  • Benack finished 2-for-3 with two runs.
  • Sutton was 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBIs in the clean-up role.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon scored at least eight runs for the sixth time this season and first time since March 20 against California (Pa.).
  • Kyle Cox's four RBIs were a season-high, topping a trio of two-RBI performances.
  • Benack recorded his second consecutive multiple-hit game, giving his eight this season which is second-best on the team.
  • Oruch added his fourth multiple-hit game and second multiple-RBI outing.
  • Sutton's scored multiple runs and drove home multiple runs for the third time each.
  • Godden tossed his first complete game of the season during his first start since March 2. It was his third complete game in two years.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division action Saturday, April 11 against Clarion at Gannon University Field. The doubleheader is slated for a special 12 noon start.
  • The two teams split last year's four-game series.
  • Gannon had swept the previous two four-game series in 2012 and 2013.
  • All four games this weekend will be played at Gannon University Field due to unplayable field conditions at Clarion. Friday's originally scheduled twinbill at the Golden Eagles' home field has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 12 at Gannon University Field with a 12 noon first pitch.
