HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon struck a big blow early, scoring four times with two outs during its first at-bat. Senior Sean Sutton (Toronto, Ontario/Brebeuf College) opened the outburst with an RBI single to left field. Aaron Cox followed with an RBI triple to right center, before scoring on freshman Kyle Cox's (Dorchester, N.J. Millville) single up the middle. After a stolen base, Cox tallied the fourth run on freshman Matt Oruch's (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) single to right field.
  • The Golden Knights tacked on another run during the third inning. With runners on the corners and two outs, Clarion pitcher Troy Kumar was called for a balk that scored Aaron Cox.
  • The Gannon lead ballooned to 8-0 with a three-run spot during the fourth inning. Sophomore Nick Restuccia (Ormond Beach, Fla./Father Lopez Catholic) and junior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty) led off with consecutive singles. After a sacrifice bunt, both scored on redshirt senior Jeff Bellanca's (Grand Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) ground-rule double to left center. Aaron Cox later tripled to left center with two outs, plating Bellanca with the eighth run.
  • The home squad put the game out of reach with another four-run spot in the sixth inning. After junior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) scored on Sutton's ground-out, Aaron Cox blasted a two-run shot well over the fence in left center. The final run scored on a dropped fly ball.
  • Clarion used three hits and a walk during the top of the seventh inning to score four times, before the final out was recorded in a 12-4 Gannon victory.
