HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon immediately jumped in front with three runs during its first at-bat. Freshman Charles Benack (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), freshman Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) and junior Aaron Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) all scored on a bases-clearing triple to right field by senior Eric Lewandowski (Dorchester, N.J./Millville).
  • Pitt-Johnstown chipped away with single runs during the first and third innings, before Gannon extended its lead to 5-2 with a two-run spot during the top of the fifth inning. Redshirt junior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) led off with a double down the left field line and scored on a single to right field by junior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty). After advancing to second on a throw home, Wiesen scored on another single by Benack.
  • Pitt-Johnstown quickly answered with four unearned runs during the bottom of the inning to surge ahead 6-5.
  • Gannon got off the deck with two runs during its last at-bat. DeVita and sophomore Andrew Wagner (Akron, Ohio / Walsh Jesuit) led off with a single and hit by pitch. A Wiesen sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position, before Benack's second hit of the game tied the contest. Redshirt senior Jeff Bellanca (Grand Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute) then followed with a go-ahead RBI single through the left side.
  • The back-and-forth trend continued with UPJ answering during its last at-bat. The tying run was unearned after Mike Palkovitz reached on an error and later scored on a wild pitch. The UPJ walk-off was completed with Luke Williams' one-out single up the middle.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Aaron Cox went the distance on the mound while suffering the loss. He allowed eight runs, but only two were earned. Cox struck out five and walked none.
  • Wiesen and Benack combined to go 4-for-6 with two runs and three RBIs out of the line-up's top two spots.
  • DeVita completed Gannon's multiple-hit trio with a 2-for-3 game, scoring twice.
  • Lewandowski finished with a team-high three RBIs after his first-inning triple.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Aaron Cox recorded his third complete game in four starts this season.
  • Lewandowski had three RBIs in a game for the second time in 2015.
  • Wiesen produced his team-best sixth multiple-hit game.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • Pitt-Johnstown wasted no time jumping on Gannon with a five-run first inning. All nine Mountains Cats came to the plate with seven recording a hit.
  • Gannon got on the board during the third inning. Senior Sean Sutton (Toronto, Ontario/Brebeuf College) led off with a double down the right field line and scored on Benack's one-out infield single.
  • UPJ answered with a single run in the fourth, before the Golden Knights exploded with five runs to tie the contest during the top of the fifth inning.
  • An RBI infield single by Aaron Cox, a Lewandowski two-run single up the middle and an RBI double by DeVita plated four runs in the span of three at-bats. Wiesen tied the ballgame later in the inning with a two-out, RBI infield single.
  • The momentum was short lived as Pitt-Johnstown immediately regained the lead with a single run during its half of the inning and extended the advantage to 10-6 with a three-run sixth inning.
  • Gannon tried to rally yet again. Wiesen drove home a pair of runs with a two-out single to left center in the top of the seventh inning, but the Golden Knights were unable to get any closer.

  • Wiesen went 2-for-5 with three RBIs from the lead-off spot.
