GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Pitt-Johnstown got on the board first with a two-run homer during the top of the first inning.
  • Gannon responded immediately with four runs during its first at-bat. The Golden Knights loaded the bases on a double by junior Jared Wiesen (Girard, Ohio/Liberty), a walk by redshirt junior Mark DeVita (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and a single by redshirt senior Jeff Bellanca (Grand Island, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute).
  • Freshman Kyle Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) drove home the first run with a fielder's choice. Junior Aaron Cox (Dorchester, N.J./Millville) followed with a three-run blast to left center for a 4-2 lead.
  • Gannon extended its lead to 7-2 with a three-run spot during the second inning. Benack led off the frame with a home run onto Fifth Street in right center. With two outs, DeVita doubled and scored on Bellanca's single to right center. Kyle Cox capped the outburst with a double to right center that scored Bellanca.
  • Pitt-Johnstown scored twice during the third inning, cutting the deficit to 7-4.
  • Gannon tacked on another run during the fourth inning. Bellanca singled and moved to second base on a wild pitch. He then scored on Aaron Cox's two-out, RBI double to right center.
  • UPJ exploded with four runs in the fifth inning to tie the score at eight. With runners on the corners and the game deadlocked, senior Matt Tobin (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) escaped the jam with a 1-6-3 double play.
  • Tied at eight, senior Eric Lewandowski (Souderton, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led off the bottom of the seventh inning with a single up the middle. Freshman Matt Oruch (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) popped up a sacrifice bunt that dropped in front of the catcher. His throw to first base was late, putting runners on first and second. Benack then singled to right field, scoring Lewandowski with the game-winning run.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Gannon's top eight batters recorded at least one hit.
  • Bellanca went 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

  • Bellanca produced his fifth career three-hit game.
  • Cox set a career-high with four RBIs.
  • Gannon scored at least nine runs in a game for the third time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO

  • Similar to the first game, Gannon responded immediately. The response this time was a five-run first inning.
  • The first two runs came home on RBI fielder's choices. DeVita doubled Gannon's run total with a two-out, two-run double to left center. Two batters later, the fifth run scored on senior Sean Sutton's (Toronto, Ontario/Brebeuf College) double to left center.
  • Pitt-Johnstown added a second run during the second inning, but Gannon countered with DeVita's home run to left field in the third inning.
  • Jackson held UPJ scoreless for the final four innings to secure the 6-2 victory.
