ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Gannon women's water polo team dropped a pair of decisions to Western Division opponents, No. 18 Michigan and No. 14 Indiana, at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) League Weekend Sunday hosted by the University of Michigan at the Canham Natatorium. The Lady Knights fell to the host Wolverines by the score of 15-5 before closing the regular season with a 15-3 loss to No. 14 Indiana. The Lady Knights moved to 13-14 on the season and 2-6 in CWPA play.
The Lady Knights opened the final day of the CWPA League Weekend against the host Wolverines (18-12, 3-4 CWPA), ranked 18th in the latest Varsity Top 20 Poll. On the CWPA Top 10 Poll, the Wolverines entered the match tied for third, while the Lady Knights occupied the 10th spot.
To open the match, the Wolverines captured a 4-1 lead before extending their lead to 10-4 at the break. The Lady Knights were held to one combined goal between the third and fourth quarters, as the Wolverines pulled away for a 15-5 victory. The win handed the Wolverines their second victory over the Lady Knights this season after earning a 13-5 decision at the Wolverine Invitational March 15.

Tricia Gajewski (Fairview, Pa./Fairview) and sophomore
Shanen Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell) each scored a pair of goals. Senior
Katelyn Jacobs (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) added a goal to the Lady Knights' total.
Freshman goalkeeper
Emily Rodriguez (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) collected five blocks in the loss.
In the second game of the day, the Lady Knights faced No. 14 Indiana (19-5, 8-0 CWPA). Winners of seven straight matches, the Hoosiers entered the match undefeated in CWPA action. The Hoosiers are ranked second in the CWPA Top 10 Poll, trailing Eastern Division leader Princeton.
To open the match, the Lady Knights fell behind 7-2 against the Hoosiers by the end of the first quarter. The Hoosiers extended their lead to 12-3 heading into the break. Holding the Lady Knights scoreless in the third and fourth quarters, the Hoosiers tallied three combined goals to seal the 15-3 victory in earning their eighth consecutive win.
Scoring a goal each for the Lady Knights were Gajewski, junior
Janelle McDaniels (Edwardsville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) and senior
Kelsey Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell).
Rodriguez registered five blocks in the loss to finish her first season in goal with a 13-14 regular-season record. This season, the freshman played every available second between the pipes for the Lady Knights.
With the conclusion of the regular season, the Lady Knights will wait to hear if their season will continue into the postseason at the CWPA Championships April 25-27 hosted by Bucknell University. The field will be determined Monday, April 14.
