ERIE, Pa. - Seven goals by Kimberly Neagle (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) weren't enough as the Gannon women's lacrosse team fell 12-7 Saturday afternoon at rival Mercyhurst. The decision snapped Gannon's four-match win streak against the Lakers who still trail the all-time series 15-6.

Mercyhurst opened the rivalry's latest edition with four consecutive goals to assume an early control. The Lakers held Gannon scoreless for the first 20 minutes and 39 seconds until Neagle struck for her first goal at the 9:21 mark, cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Gannon later clawed within 5-3 after back-to-back goals from Neagle 51 seconds apart. The first came off a free-position shot while the second came off an assist from Tessa Mitchell (Rush, N.Y./Rush Henrietta) with 5:54 left in the first half. One last Mercyhurst goal gave the Lakers a 6-3 lead heading into the halftime locker room.

Neagle didn't cool down in the second half. The senior midfielder needed only 56 seconds to score off another free-position shot as Gannon pulled within 6-4. But Mercyhurst responded with three consecutive goals to put the match away.  Neagle added three more scores during the final 15 minutes, but the Lady Knights never got closer than three goals the rest of the way.

Mercyhurst held slight advantages in shots (26-24), saves (11-9) and fewest turnovers (12-18). Gannon doubled Mercyhurst on draw controls (14-7) while both teams recorded 18 ground balls.

Neagle scored all seven Gannon goals on nine shots. She tied a career-high previously set during a 21-2 victory against Tiffin on April 26, 2012. The scoring output represented the most goals by a Lady Knight since Jess Fugate scored eight times during a 19-7 win against East Stroudsburg on March 30, 2013.

Mitchell and Stevie Lombardoni (Mexico, N.Y./Mexico) accounted for the Lady Knights' only two assists. Margaret Maslyn (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) recorded nine saves between the pipes.

Gannon dropped to 6-7 overall and 3-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) with its second consecutive loss. Mercyhurst improved to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in conference action. The Lady Knights return to action Tuesday, April 15 at Millersville. Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
