Gannon Women’s Water Polo Ready for CWPA League Weekend; Opens against No. 17 Hartwick Saturday

The Gannon Lady Knights head to the University of Michigan April 12-13 for the CWPA League Weekend.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Gannon women's water polo team concludes its regular-season schedule at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) League Weekend April 12-13 hosted by the University of Michigan at Canham Natatorium. The Lady Knights will play a pair of matches each day at the two-day event, squaring off with three nationally-ranked opponents. To open action, the Lady Knights face No. 17 Hartwick Saturday at 10 a.m.

SCHEDULE
Saturday, April 12 – vs. No. 17 Hartwick  at 10 a.m.
Saturday, April 12 – vs. Notre Dame (Ohio) at 4:30 p.m.
Sunday, April 13 – at No. 18 Michigan at 10:30 a.m.
Sunday, April 13 – vs. No. 14 Indiana at 1:30 p.m.

FORMAT CHANGE
With various changes to the CWPA championship format this season, this event replaces the previously billed CWPA Western Division Championship. This season's divisional title will be awarded to the team with the best league record at the conclusion of play Sunday. The selection of the teams to compete at the CWPA Championship at Bucknell University April 25-26 will also be based on the outcome of this weekend.


GANNON LADY KNIGHTS
Overall Record: 12-11
CWPA Record: 1-3 (Fourth)

TEAM NOTES:
- The Gannon Lady Knights enter the weekend with a 12-11 overall mark and 1-3 record in CWPA action.
- In recent action, the Lady Knights defeated the reigning CWPA Division III regular season champions Grove City April 8 by the score of 15-7. The previous weekend, the Lady Knights posted a record of 2-3 at the Hartwick Tournament April 5-6.  
- Senior Katelyn Jacobs (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township) leads the Lady Knights' offensive attack with 44 goals on the season. The program's all-time assist leader has tallied 49 this season to bring her career total to 155.
- Registering every second in goal for the Lady Knights this season, freshman Emily Rodriguez (Erie, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) has collected 181 blocks including 40 steals and 12 assists. Rodriguez recently earned her third CWPA weekly honor after she was named the association Western Division Rookie of the Week.


NO. 17 HARTWICK HAWKS
Overall Record: 17-11
CWPA Record: 3-1 (Second)

TEAM NOTES:
- Ranked 17th in the Varsity Top 20 Poll, the Hartwick Hawks hold a 17-11 record and a 3-1 mark in CWPA action to occupy second in the league.
- The host Hawks posted a 2-1 record at the Hartwick Tournament April 5-6, picking up a pair of CWPA victories over Notre Dame (Ohio) and Gannon.
- Enjoying six days off from action heading into this weekend, the Hawks last faced Gannon April 6 to conclude the tournament with a 22-8 victory.
- Starting in all 28 games appeared in, Jemma Dendy Young leads the Hawks in goals (62), points (89) and steals (79). Joining Dendy Young, two additional Hawks have recorded 50 or more goals this season including Sami Capparelli (58) and Katie Ermakova (50).
- Appearing in each contest for the Hawks, goalkeeper Michaela Davies has compiled 264 blocks and holds a 9.48 GAA.


NOTRE DAME (OHIO) FALCONS
Overall Record: 2-15
CWPA Record: 0-4 (Fifth)

TEAM NOTES:
- The Notre Dame (Ohio) Falcons possess a 2-15 overall mark and a 0-4 record in CWPA play.
- The Falcons have dropped seven straight with their last win coming at Michigan's Canham Pool in overtime over Fresno Pacific, 11-10, on March 16.
- In four previous matches, the Lady Knights have captured a win over the Falcons. The Lady Knights hold a 14-1 all-time record against the Falcons, winning eight straight.
- Leading the Falcons is first-year head coach Ryan Wynn.


NO. 18 MICHIGAN WOLVERINES
Overall Record: 17-11
CWPA Record: 2-3 (Third)

TEAM NOTES:
- The host Michigan Wolverines enter the CWPA Western Division Championships ranked 18th in the latest Varsity Top 20 Poll. The Wolverines have captured a win in 14 of their last 15 matches with their last loss coming at home March 29 to No. 14 Indiana by the score of 7-4.
- The Wolverines hold a 4-10 record against nationally-ranked opponents this season.
- At the Wolverine Invitational, the host school posted a perfect 5-0 mark including a 13-5 win over Gannon March 15.
- Starting in all 28 matches, Presley Pender leads the Wolverines across the board in goals (42), assists (33) and points (75).
- Three goalkeepers have seen action for the Wolverines. Emily Browning has received a bulk of the nods in goal, starting in 20 of the 23 games appeared in. Recording a 13-11 overall mark, Browning has accumulated 156 blocks en route to an 8.18 GAA.


NO. 14 INDIANA HOOSIERS
Overall Record: 16-5
CWPA Record: 5-0 (First)

TEAM NOTES:
- The Indiana Hooisers enter the weekend with a 16-5 overall mark and an undefeated record of 5-0 in league play. The Hoosiers have strung together five consecutive victories including a 4-0 record at the Hartwick Tournament April 5-6. In their showing at the Hartwick Tournament, the Hoosiers outscored their opponents by a margin of 68-16, while holding three of their opponents to three or less goals.
- The Hoosiers' all-time leading scorer Shae Fournier leads the team's offensive attack. Fournier earned her 19th career CWPA weekly honor this past week after tallying 14 goals, two assists and 16 steals to lead the Hoosiers to a perfect mark at the Hartwick Tournament.
- In recent action, the Hoosiers defeated Notre Dame (Ohio) by the score of 19-1 April 6 to conclude their time at the tournament.
- The Hoosiers have swept the host Wolverines in three games this season to take a firm control of the top spot in the division.
