HAMDEN, Conn. - The Gannon acrobatics and tumbling team dropped a 279.575-260.895 decision during its highly-anticipated debut Saturday afternoon at 2013 National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA) national runner-up Quinnipiac. A record crowd of 1,107 fans witnessed the Lady Knights' first-ever performance.
Quinnipiac slowly built its lead throughout the evening with victories in all four events. The Bobcats jumped out to a 38.65-34.25 lead after winning the compulsory event. The lead grew to 67.15-61.19 after Quinnipiac posted a 28.5-26.94 win in the acro segment of the night.
Gannon was able to pick up its first-ever victory in the twisting pyramid heat during the third event, posting a 9.65-9.04 verdict. However, Quinnipiac took the remaining two heats to nip the Lady Knights 28.24-28.1 in the pyramid event. The decision pushed the home team's advantage to 95.39-89.29.
Quinnipiac closed out the afternoon with a 28.05-26.6 victory in the toss segment and a 56.48-49.58 win in the tumble event to account for the final score.
Gannon dropped to 0-1 with Saturday's decision while Quinnipiac moved to 1-0. Hometown fans will get their first-ever look at the Lady Knights Saturday, February 8 when they host Fairmont State at the Hammermill Center. The meet is scheduled for 6 p.m.
