Gannon Women’s Basketball Closes Year at Cheyney Saturday (Game Notes)

CHEYNEY, Pa.The Gannon women's basketball team will look to close the year on a three-game win streak when the team faces host Cheyney Saturday afternoon at Cope Hall in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action. The Lady Knights opened a three-game stretch in five days with a two-game homestand to begin conference crossover action. The Maroon and Gold captured back-to-back wins over East Stroudsburg, 72-49, and previously unbeaten West Chester, 69-61. The Lady Knights head to Cheyney to close the opening semester with 24 consecutive wins in PSAC crossover action against Eastern Division teams dating back to the 2010-11 season. The tip is set for 1 p.m., as the opener in the doubleheader.

SCOUTING CHEYNEY
- Cheyney has dropped seven straight contests since capturing a 72-69 win over fellow PSAC Eastern Division opponent Mansfield Nov. 22.
- The Lady Wolves currently own eighth-place in the Eastern Division with a 1-4 mark in conference play and 1-9 overall record.
- In recent action, the Lady Wolves nearly defeated PSAC crossover opponent Mercyhurst, 57-52, Dec. 17. Trailing the host Lakers by just three at the break, 31-28, the Lady Wolves went on a 13-0 run to take a 41-36 lead with 10:17 remaining. With five minutes remaining in regulation, the Lakers were able to rally for the win.
- The Lady Wolves rank last in the PSAC in scoring offense (56.0) and 17th in scoring defense (73.6). In 10 contests this season, Cheyney has lost on average by 17.6 points, which is last in the conference.
- Kyra Hines-Allen leads the Lady Wolves with 13.6 points per game to rank 15th among PSAC scoring leaders. Hines-Allen is followed by Kia Whitley-Duncan with 8.5 points per game and TaKayla Ellis with 7.1 points per game.
 
SERIES HISTORY
- Gannon remains unbeaten against Cheyney in the all-time series. The two squads have only played four times with each meeting coming in the last four seasons. All the meetings have occurred as conference crossovers since the Lady Knights joined the PSAC in the 2008-09 season.
- The Lady Knights have captured consecutive victories by an identical margin of 21 points the last two games.
- In the four matchups, the Maroon and Gold have outscored the Lady Wolves by 25.3 points.
 
LOOKING BACK
Continuing in PSAC-crossover action, Gannon earned a 69-61 win over Eastern Division opponent West Chester Wednesday evening at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights were able to withstand a Golden Rams' late rally in the final minutes to hand the visiting squad their first loss of the season. The Lady Knights captured their 24th consecutive win in conference-crossover action during the regular season. Familiar faces led the Lady Knights for the second straight game. Senior Mollie Sebald (Broadview Heights, Ohio/Holy Name) matched a career-best 21 points and fellow senior Nettie Blake (Jersey City, N.J./Marist) scored a season-high 20 points.
 
NEXT UP
The Lady Knights are in the midst of a stretch that includes three games in five days before heading into the holiday break. With the start of the new year, GU will head back out with a weekend trip to Millersville Jan. 3, followed by Shippensburg Jan. 4. Both games tip at 1 p.m.
 
OUTSIDE THE WILD WEST
In 36 total PSAC crossovers, the Lady Knights hold a 34-2 record since joining the conference in 2008-09. The Lady Knights have won 24 consecutive games against Eastern Division opponents. In crossover play, the Lady Knights hold an 18-1 record at home and a 16-1 record on the road. This season, a win or loss during PSAC-crossover action will count in a team's conference standings.
 
RECORD CHASER
Blake continues to climb her way up the program's all-time list in multiple categories. Among all-time career leaders in program history, Blake ranks fifth in most rebounds (817), seventh in most free throws made (292) and 12th in most points (1,260). She continues to move up multiple other career lists, compiling 64 blocked shots and 484 field goals made. She recorded double-figure rebounds in six consecutive games that dated from last season's NCAA Atlantic Regional semifinal against Edinboro until the team's meeting at Grand Valley State this season.
 
FAST BREAK POINTS
- Dating back to the 2011-12 season, Gannon has won 44 of their last 47 games at the Hammermill Center for a .936 winning percentage. In 41 years at the Hammermill Center, the Lady Knights have posted a record of 361-147 for a win-percentage of .711.
- Among the PSAC leaders, the Lady Knights are first in free-throw percentage (.739) and second in assist/turnover ratio (1.12). The team is sixth in rebounding offense (42.8) and third in both rebounding defense (36.8) and rebounding margin (6.0). Averaging 16.44 assists per game, GU ranks fourth in the league.

- Senior Brittany Batts (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) occupies second all-time at Gannon with 254 career three-pointers. She needs 46 to break Jacki Windon's school record of 299. She also only needs 11 points to become the 26th Lady Knight in school history to record 1,000-career points.
