No. 13 Gannon Women’s Basketball Opens Non-Conference Road Swing at Ashland Tuesday (Game Notes)

ASHLAND, Ohio – The No. 13 Gannon women's basketball team will head out on a two-game road swing that will take the Lady Knights back to their days in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC). In the midst of a respite from Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action, the Lady Knights' first stop will be in Ashland Nov. 25, at 7 p.m. The Eagles will host the Lady Knights for their home opener after spending the first three games on the road. The Lady Knights remain undefeated with a 3-0 overall mark, while the Eagles are 1-2 on the season.

SCOUTING ASHLAND
- Ashland enters Tuesday's showdown against Gannon with a 1-2 overall record. The game will mark the home opener for the Eagles, who will return home to Kates Gymnasium for seven of their next nine games.
- In recent action, the Eagles fell to Southern Indiana, 72-64, on the road Nov. 22. The Eagles opened the season at the GLIAC/GMAC Challenge Nov.14-15, with a 74-65 loss to Cedarville before bouncing back with a dominant 83-43 win over Ursuline.
- Suzy Wollenhaupt leads the Eagles' offense, which features three players averaging double-figure scoring. Wollenhaupt is averaging 13.7 points per contest followed by Taylor Woods (13.0 points per game) and Laina Snyder (12.7 points per game). Snyder and Andi Daugherty are each registering 10.7 rebounds per game.
- Prior to the start of the season, the Eagles received votes in the initial USA Today Sports Division II Coaches Poll. In addition, they were selected to finish second in the GLIAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Head coach Sue Ramsey is in her 20th season at Ashland, compiling a 343-210 overall record.
 
SERIES HISTORY
- Gannon holds a 21-15 lead in the all-time series with Ashland. Before dropping their last three meetings with the Eagles, the Lady Knights were on a five-game winning streak in the series.
- As the road squad, the Lady Knights are 9-7 against the Eagles, winning their last two trips to the city of Ashland.
- The Lady Knights and the Eagles were former conference opponents during GU's 13-year stay in the GLIAC.
- Seven of their last 12 matchups have been decided by less than four points including three by one point.
- The last time the two met was in the first round of the 2013 NCAA Elite Eight when the Eagles rallied for a 74-63 win en route to the team's national championship.
 
LOOKING BACK
No. 13 Gannon remains unbeaten following a 68-65 win over crosstown rival and PSAC West Division opponent Mercyhurst Nov. 22, at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center. In the final five minutes of regulation, the Lady Knights pulled away with their seventh consecutive win over the Lakers. For the fourth consecutive season, the Lady Knights open conference action with a 2-0 record. Senior Mollie Sebald (Broadview Heights, Ohio / Holy Name) led the Lady Knights with a season-high 19 points off the bench. She also registered a season-best six rebounds to bring her career total to 300. In 19 minutes, she added a steal and an assist. The senior went a perfect 8-for-8 at the foul line, marking a career best in free-throws made in a game. Also contributing offensively were senior Brittany Batts (Leesburg, Va. / Loudoun County) with 12 points and junior Morgan Neighbors (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville South) with 11 points.
 
NEXT UP
In the midst of a non-conference road swing to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), the Lady Knights will return home for Thanksgiving before heading back out to Grand Valley State Nov. 29. The tip is set for 1 p.m. The Lakers of Grand Valley State hold an 11-6 lead in the all-time series, however the Lady Knights have won two of the last three meetings. The well-rested Lakers enter Saturday's game with a 2-0 overall record, defeating their opponents by an average margin of 36 points. Three Lakers are averaging double-figure scoring with the team shooting 43.9-percent from the field.

THIS LOOKS FAMILIAR
This week, the Lady Knights jump back in time with a visit to the familiar surroundings of the GLIAC. The Lady Knights will take a break from PSAC action with a road swing to Ashland, Nov. 25, and Grand Valley State, Nov. 29. During the program's 13-year stay in the GLIAC, the team posted 217-150 overall record.
 
RECORD CHASERS
Senior Nettie Blake (Jersey City, N.J. / Marist) continues to climb her way up the program's all-time list in multiple categories. Among all-time career leaders in program history, Blake ranks sixth in most rebounds (762) and eighth in most free throws made (279). She continues to move up multiple other career lists, compiling 1,175 points, 64 blocked shots and 448 field goals made.
 
D2SIDA REGIONAL RANKINGS
The Lady Knights have moved into the top spot in the latest Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) Atlantic Region Media Poll released Nov. 24. Gannon (3-0) assumed the top spot after being ranked second last week, earning 19 points. California (Pa.) (4-0) sits close behind in second place with 18 points. West Liberty (W.Va.) (2-1), Edinboro (3-1) and West Chester (4-0) completed the top five.
 
FAST BREAK POINTS
- Blake ranks sixth all-time at Gannon in rebounds (762) and 16th in career points (1,175).
- Batts occupies third all-time at Gannon with 244 career three-pointers. She needs 54 to break Jacki Windon's school record of 299.
