CLARION, Pa. - Following a stretch of six-games against cross-divisional opponents, the No. 2 Gannon Lady Knights return to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West Division action against the host Clarion Golden Eagles on Saturday, Jan. 11, at Tippin Gym. The tip is set for 5:30 p.m.
SCOUTING THE CLARION GOLDEN EAGLES
- Holding an even 6-6 overall mark, the Clarion Golden Eagles have rattled off four wins in their last five games. Prior to this stretch, the Golden Eagles dropped four straight after opening the season with a 2-1 record.
- The Golden Eagles return to PSAC West Division play after posting a 3-3 record against cross-divisional opponents in crossover action.
- Among the PSAC, Clarion ranks fourth in both field goal percentage (42.5) and steals per game (11.08), while placing sixth in turnover margin (1.50), blocked shots per game (3.33), and assist/turnover ratio (0.87)
- For the Golden Eagles, Kelly Johnson and Emma Fickel are tied for first in scoring with 170 points, averaging 14.2 points each. All-conference volleyball selection, Hannah Heeter leads the team on the glass with 87 total rebounds in just seven games, averaging 12.4 boards per game
- Head coach Gie Parsons is in her 24th season at Clarion. The Slippery Rock graduate holds a 347-327 record during her time with the Golden Eagles, winning five PSAC West titles en route to three conference crowns.
SERIES HISTORY
In 44 all-time meetings, the Lady Knights hold a 29-14 record against Clarion, capturing 12 consecutive victories. Visiting Tippin Gym, the Lady Knights have left victors in six straight games. The last loss to the Golden Eagles on the road came in the 1993-94 regular-season finale on Feb. 26, 85-63. Ten of the Lady Knights' 12 consecutive wins have been decided by more than 14 points with GU outscoring the Golden Eagles on average by 17.4 points. The last game decided by single digits was in the Lady Knights' 69-63 win over host Clarion on Feb. 14, 2009.

Junior Brittany Batts (Leesburg,Va./Loudoun County) set a career game-high 28 points, as the No. 2 Gannon women's basketball team defeated the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division opponent Cheyney on Wednesday evening at the Junker Center on the campus of Penn State Behrend. The Lady Knights conclude PSAC crossover action this season undefeated with a 6-0 mark, capturing their 22nd consecutive win in cross-divisional play. In total, 12 Lady Knights registered at least a bucket in the win over Cheyney.

HOMECOMING PARADE
Saturday's meeting with Clarion will be a homecoming for both head coach Jim Brunelli and assistant coach Mike Whitling. Brunelli started his coaching career with the Golden Eagles, as a graduate assistant from 1998-2000. Brunelli also obtained his bachelor's degree from Clarion in 1996, playing for the Golden Eagles in 1993-94. Whitling also received his start in the coaching ranks at Clarion, serving as a graduate assistant with coach Gie Parsons from 2005-08.Â
THE FINAL SIX
The Lady Knights are one of six NCAA Division II women's teams to remain undefeated on the season. Joining the 15-0 Lady Knights are Bentley (13-0), Emporia State (15-0), Nova Southeastern (11-0), Colorado Mesa (13-0) and Harding (13-0). At the start of the week, Adelphi was among the group of unbeaten squads, but fell out with a 104-92 loss to visitor Stonehill on Jan. 8.
THE BB GUN
Beyond setting a career game-high with 28 points against Cheyney, Batts has led the Lady Knights in back-to-back games. She was the only Lady Knight to reach double digits against the Wolves. Shooting 10-for-14 in the game, Batts set a career game-high in field goals made. She also tied a career game-high with eight three-pointers, including five in the second half alone. The junior has compiled 208 career three-pointers, moving her 14 away from breaking into the top-three of the program's all-time list.
LOOKING AHEAD
After spending over a month on the road, the No. 2 Gannon Lady Knights are scheduled to return to the Hammermill Center on Wednesday, Jan. 15, against the No. 20 Indiana Crimson Hawks with the tip set at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Knights hold a 15-13 all-time record against the Crimson Hawks, winning three consecutive games. Last season, the Lady Knights defeated the Crimson Hawks, 64-46, in the PSAC semifinals at the Hammermill Center en route to their 2013 conference team title.
