Gannon Women’s Soccer Shuts Out West Chester, 1-0

Senior Sarah Geffel leads women's soccer in win over West Chester with a career-high 16 saves


WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Gannon women's soccer team managed to bounce back after a loss the previous afternoon with a 1-0 victory over Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent West Chester on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Knights used a first-half tally in the 19th minute to seal the victory over the host Rams. Gannon moves to 3-1-0 overall and 3-1-0 in PSAC action, while the Rams slide to 1-3-0 and 1-3-0 in conference action.
Junior Justine Rodrigues (Georgetown, Ontario/Georgetown District) scored the Lady Knights' tally in the contest with sophomore Britney Barry (Sydney, Australia / St. Andrews Lutheran College) picking up the assist for her first career point. Senior Sarah Geffel (Apollo, Pa. / Kiski Area) registered her third win of the season and first shutout on a career-high 16 saves.
The Lady Knights scored the lone tally of the contest in the 19th minute of play. Barry was able to connect with Rodrigues for her first goal of the season and ninth of her career. 
In the final two minutes of the contest, West Chester's final shot was blocked sealing the Gannon 1-0 victory.
West Chester held a 23-12 shot advantage over the visiting Lady Knights, doubling up on the visitors 12-6 in shots on goal. 
Gannon concludes its early season roadtrip with a contest on Saturday, Sept. 21 versus crosstown rival Mercyhurst at 1 p.m.
