CALIFORNIA, Pa. - After playing over 78 minutes of scoreless action, the No. 19 California Vulcans erupted for three goals late in the second half to defeat the No. 25 Gannon women's soccer team, 3-0, on Saturday evening at Roadman Park.
The Vulcans scored their first tally of the evening in the 79th minute to take the 1-0 lead. Their next two tallies came in the 81st and 88th minute of play.
The Lady Knights were outshot in the contest, 27-8. The difference came in the second half when the Vulcans held an 18-4 shot advantage over the visiting Lady Knights.
The Vulcans' tight defense smothered the Lady Knights' offensive game with their final shot coming in the 61st minute of action.
Sophomore
Mani Brueckner (Valencia, Pa. / Mars Area) led Gannon's offense with four shots on the evening. Senior goalkeeper
Sarah Geffel (Apollo, Pa. / Kiski Area) recorded six saves in the loss.
The all-time series between the Vulcans and Lady Knights is now even at 11-11.
Gannon returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 8 when the Lady Knights travel to Seton Hill to face the Griffins with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m.
