Gannon Swimming and Diving Opens Season at Edinboro Tri-Meet; Women Split and Men Defeat Host Fighting Scots

Junior Adam Chrzanowski captured three first-place finishes, registering PSAC qualifying times in two of the events in the Golden Knights' win over host Edinboro



EDINBORO, Pa. - The Gannon men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the season at the McComb Natatorium on the campus of Edinboro University on Friday evening. The men's team captured a close-fought 118-112 victory over the host Fighting Scots. The women's team split two decisions, falling to the Fighting Scots, 74-39, and defeating the Millersville Marauders, 94-19.

Gannon opened the season with nine combined top-finishes and 10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times.

The Golden Knights were led by junior Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) and sophomore Denys Fedrochenko (Zaborizhia, Ukraine), who each captured first-place finishes. Freshman Drew Wolter (Clarksville, Md. / Atholton) and junior Logan Bissell (Yorktown, Va. / York) also each recorded a first-place finish.

Chrzanowski secured his top-finishes in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.09), 50-yard backstroke (26.13) and 100-yard backstroke (55.64). The junior met PSAC qualifying times in both the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke. Fedrochenko occupied the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly (56.15) and 100-yard freestyle (48.25) events. The sophomore posted PSAC qualifying times in the 100-freestyle and 500-freestyle events, where he finished second (4:55.81).

Wolter won the 500-yard freestyle with a PSAC qualifying time of 4:55.70, while Bissell took the 100-yard IM (57.20) race.      

The Golden Knights improved to 1-0 on the season with the Fighting Scots falling to 0-1.

Sophomores Morgan Lydic (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio / Cuyahoga Falls) and Madeline Summers (Lake Stevens, Wash. / Lake Stevens) and freshman Gabrielle Borza (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Allegheny) led the Lady Knights with each recording PSAC qualifying times. Lydic captured first place in the 50-yard freestyle (25.14) and second in the 100-yard freestyle (54.15). Summers finished second in both the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.14) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.84). In her collegiate debut, Borza won her first race of her career in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.54).

The Lady Knights are even at 1-1 on the season. The Fighting Scots remain undefeated at 2-0 and the Marauders fell to 0-2.

Gannon returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18 at the Spire Institute for a quad-meet. Gannon will be joined by the Fighting Scots and Millersville once again with Indiana (Pa.) completing the field of four teams. The quad-meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
