Gannon Swim Teams Fall at Indiana (Pa.) Invitational Despite Six Titles

INDIANA, Pa. – The Gannon women's and men's swim teams won six championships during the final day of the Indiana (Pa.) Invitational, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Knights were swept by host Indiana (Pa.) and Bloomsburg.

The men's team suffered a close 167-161 decision to Indiana (Pa.) and a 176-151 setback against Bloomsburg. The women's squad dropped a 223-108 verdict against Indiana (Pa.) and a 209-119 loss to Bloomsburg.

Nineteen Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) times were recorded and six gold medals were captured despite the team losses. Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep), Ryan Carter (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) were double-winners on the men's side.

Chase won an individual gold medal in the 100-yard freestyle with a top speed and PSAC-time of 48.36 seconds. The senior concluded the night as part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. The foursome of Nathan Bean (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek), Chase, Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) beat the field in three minutes and 13.48 seconds.

Carter took home his individual title in the 200-yard freestyle, out-swimming the competition with a conference-qualifying time of one minute and 48.26 seconds. The freshman also helped Terrance Coughran (Atwater, Calif./Atwater), Logan Bissell (Yorktown, Va./York) and Wolhaupter win the 800-yard freestyle relay in seven minutes and 18.74 seconds.

Morgan Lydic (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) represented the lone double-winner for the Lady Knights. The freshman touched the wall first in the 100-yard freestyle, swimming a top time of 53.84 seconds that met PSAC standards. She later anchored the 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem), Shanen Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald). The group posted a winning time of three minutes and 37.97 seconds.

The Gannon women's team dropped to 7-8 while the men's squad fell to 6-7. Indiana (Pa.) is now 5-0 on the women's side and 4-1 on the men's side. Bloomsburg moved to 7-5 in women's action and 6-3 in men's competition. Both Gannon teams will take almost three weeks off until competing at the 2013 PSAC Championships February 14-17 in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
