PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Gannon women's water polo team suffered a 16-6 set back to host institution Brown Friday afternoon at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championships.

The Bears raced out to an early lead, holding a 4-0 edge after the first quarter. Brown tallied the first four goals of the second quarter before Molly Andrews (Tustin, Calif. / Tustin) scored the Lady Knights' first goal with 2:42 remaining in the half. 

Gannon chipped away at the deficit to begin the third quarter as Janelle McDaniels (Edwardsville, Pa. / Wyoming Valley West) and Kelsey Rzymek (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) added goals at 6:02 and 4:53 to close the gap to 8-3.

However, the Bears out-scored Gannon 4-1 over the remainder of the period and 4-2 in the fourth quarter to claim a 10-goal victory for the second time this season.

Andrews and McDaniels led Gannon's offense with two goals each while Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa. / McDowell) and Rzymek each added one. 

In goal, Cranston and Shinn combined for nine saves for Brown, while Janelle Bartman (Darien, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) notched four stops for Gannon.

The Lady Knights will next compete Saturday, April 28 at 11:20 a.m. against Mercyhurst with a spot in the ninth place game set for Sunday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. on the line.
