Gannon Swim Teams Sweep Dual Meet at Nearby Allegheny

Sophomore Adam Chrzanowski won three events again Friday evening, helping Gannon defeat Allegheny.

MEADVILLE, Pa. – Morgan Lydic (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) and Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) were triple-winners Friday night as the Gannon swim teams swept a dual meet at Allegheny. The women's team posted a 137-100 victory while the men's squad secured a 117-106 verdict.

The Gannon women's team won nine events during Friday's 37-point victory. Lydic was the big winner, being part of two winning relay teams and capturing an individual gold medal. The freshman opened the night by joining Kelsey Williams (Danville, Pa./Danville Area), Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Amanda Knapp (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) to win the 200-yard medley relay in one minute and 54 seconds.

Lydic concluded the night as part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. She helped post a time of 1:40.53 with Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem), Emily Nottingham (Titusville, Pa./Titusville) and Madeline Summers (Lake Stevens, Wash./Lake Stevens). Lydic's individual title came in the 50-yard freestyle where she had a PSAC-qualifying time of 24.69 seconds, narrowly missing an NCAA “B” cut time by 0.38 second.

Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) was a double-winner on her own, winning the 100-yard freestyle (54.40) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:59.52). Both times met conference-qualifying standards.

Three members of the winning relay teams also finished first during an individual race to earned double-winner status. Williams won the 200-yard backstroke (2;01.83 / PSAC), Vincent took home the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.60 / PSAC) and Fischl touched the wall first in the 200-yard IM (2:17.83).

Charlene Lichota (Hamburg, N.Y./Frontier) completed the individual winners on the women's side, taking home the championship in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 18 minutes and 36.08 seconds.

Three non-winning times were still good enough to qualify for the PSAC Championships. Those marks included Summers in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.68 / 2nd place), Nottingham in the 50-yard freestyle (25.50 / 3rd place) and Shanen Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.86 / 2nd place).

Chrzanowski topped the men's competition as a triple-winner. The sophomore initially won individual events with conference-qualifying times in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.40) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.69). He then ended the night with a 200-yard freestyle relay victory. The winning time of 1:27.60 was produced by a foursome that included Nathan Bean (Houston, Texas/Cypress Creek), Chrzanowski, Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown).

Bean and Wolhaupter participated on both winning relay teams. The two combined with Ryan Carter (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) and Logan Bissell (Yorktown, Va./York) to win the 200-yard medley relay in one minute and 38.93 seconds.

Carter and Chase also became double winners by capturing individual gold medals in addition to their relay wins. Both had PSAC-qualifying times during their individual titles - Carter in the 200-yard IM (2:01.51) and Chase in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.07). Mike Lawrence (Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario/Notre-Dame-des-Grands-Lacs) completed Gannon's group of male winners, touching the wall first in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a conference-qualifying time of 16 minutes and 40.08 seconds.

Nine PSAC-qualifying times were recorded in non-gold medal finishes on the men's side. They included Bean in the 50-yard freestyle (21.96 / 3rd place), Bissell in the 200-yard IM (2:02.70 / 2nd place), Carter in the 100-yard freestyle (49.56 / 3rd place), Chase in the 50-yard freestyle (21.79 / 2nd place), Terrance Coughran (Atwater, Calif./Atwater) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.35 / 3rd place), Michael Decsey (Mississauga, Ontario/Erindale) in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.27 / 3rd place), Tommy Herman (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) in the 1,650-yard freestyle (17:46.05 / 4th place), Lawrence in the 500-yard freestyle (4:56.54 / 2nd place) and Wolhaupter in the 100-yard freestyle (48.57 / 2nd place).

The Gannon women's team improved to 4-3 overall while the men's squad moved to 3-2 overall. The Allegheny teams dropped to 0-3 on the women's side and 1-2 on the men's side.

Head coach Nathan Walter's Gannon swim teams return to action Saturday, November 17 at the Kenyon Quad-Meet. The event features Kenyon, Gannon, Grove City and Case Western. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
