Gannon Women's Swim Team Splits Tri-Meet with California (Pa.) and Millersville

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Gannon women's swim team recorded 13 top-three finishes and split a tri-meet Saturday afternoon at California (Pa.). The Lady Knights defeated Millersville 65-30 and dropped a 56-39 decision to the host school.

Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) captured Gannon's only gold medal of the day, touching the wall first in the 400-yard IM. The sophomore won the event easily with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying time of four minutes and 50.56 seconds. The performance was over four seconds quicker than the next swimmer.

The Greensburg, Pa., native was also the only Lady Knight to record two PSAC-qualifying times. She added another standard in the 100-yard breaststroke, finishing seventh with a time of one minute and 11.23 seconds.

Five other conference-qualfiying times were recorded during Saturday's action. They included Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) in the 200-yard freestyle (2nd, 1:59.03), Shanen Lazenby (Erie, Pa./McDowell) in the 200-yard freestyle (3rd, 2:00.91), Morgan Lydic (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) in the 100-yard freestyle (2nd, 53.99), Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) in the 100-yard breaststroke (3rd, 1:09.92) and Janelle McDaniels (Edwardsville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) in the 100-yard breaststroke (4th, 1:10.75).

Gannon moved its dual meet record to 3-3 with Saturday's split. California (Pa.) improved to 2-0 while Millersville dropped to 2-1. Both the Gannon women's and men's swim teams return to action Friday, November 9 at Allegheny. The dual meet is scheduled for 5 p.m.

NOTE: The Gannon men's team swam in an exhibition at California (Pa.) since Millersville and Cal do not field men's teams. Ryan Carter's (Yorktown, Va./Grafton) 4:27.77 time and Ethan Chase's (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) 4:34.18 time in the 400-yard IM did meet PSAC-qualifying standards.
