Gannon Finishes NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Duals with 3-0 Record after Routs of East Stroudsburg and Ohio Valley

Zack Zelcs turned in a dominant perforamnce this weekend, finishing with a perfect 3-0 record with all three wins coming via pin.

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Gannon wrestling team finished off a perfect weekend at the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Duals. Gannon defeated East Stroudsburg 44-9 before taking down Ohio Valley 41-6.
 
Against the Warriors, Gannon jumped out to a 11-0 lead thanks to a tech fall from Matt Turek (Painesville, Ohio / Madison) and a pin from Adam Weinell (Blairsville, Pa. / Blairsville).
 
Adam Greenman (Port Allegany, Pa. / Port Allegany) earned six team points for Gannon with his second pin of the weekend in the 165-pound division. He took care of Mike Honeywell in just 1:56.
 
Zack Zelcs (Ridgway, Pa. / Ridgway) also picked up his second pin in as many chances, needing just one minute 19 seconds to take care of Will Esposito. Gannon won three weight classes by forfeit to finish with the 44-9 final score.
 
The Golden Knights win nine of 10 matches against Ohio Valley to earn their third straight dual meet of the weekend. Gannon added bonus points in six weight classes.
 
Turek opened action at 125 pounds with a 26-11 tech fall win over Drew Smith. Weinell added four team points at 133 pounds with a 9-1 major decision.
 
Scott Bulzan (Chardon, Ohio / Chardon) and Sean Floor (Westbrookville, N.Y. / Port Jervis) both added decision while Ethan Swope (Luthersburg, Pa. / DuBois Area) and Jermaine Easter (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) won by forfeit.
 
Ohio Valley picked up their only win with a pin at 174 pounds, but Zelcs answered with his third pin of the weekend at 184 pounds. Chris Boyd (Chase City, Va. / Randolph Henry) earned a 6-4 decision at 197 pounds before Chaz Lear (Cape May, N.J. / Lower Cape May Regional) picked up a forfeit win at heavyweight.
 
Gannon was deducted one team point for unsportsmanlike conduct to account for a 41-6 final score.
 
For the weekend, Turek, Weinell, Swope and Zelcs all finished 3-0. Zelcs turned in a dominant performance with three pins. Turek had two tech falls and a pin while Adam Weinell recorded two pins and a major decision.
 
The 3-0 weekend improved the Golden Knights to 7-1 in dual action. Gannon next competes at Mercyhurst on Thursday, January 26. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at the Mercyhurst Athletic Center.
