#25 Gannon Women's Basketball Team Earns 72-58 Win Over Clarion

Papich finished with a game-high 17 points during a 72-58 win over Clarion

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's basketball team earned a second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win Saturday afternoon, defeating Clarion by a 72-58 final score.
 
The Lady Knights used 14 steals and 23 points off turnovers to stymie the Golden Eagles offense. The Lady Knights also turned in a season-high 11 three-pointers, shooting 39.3 percent from behind the arc for the game.
 
Gannon was able to gradually build a lead during the first half, holding a 25-10 lead at the 8:50 mark. Clarion cut the lead down to 12, but Gannon answered with a pair of free throws from Kelsey McCoy (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania Northview) and a bucket from Mollie Sebald (Broadview Heights, Ohio / Holy Name) to stretch the lead back to 16.
 
Clarion would cut into the lead during the opening minutes of the first half with a 13-3 run. A three pointer from Emma Fickel followed by a basket from Hannah Heeter made the score 45-38 with 13:43 to play.
 
Gannon answered with a three from Caitlyn Lowe (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) to put the lead back at 12. The shot sparked an 11-0 Gannon run, capping it with a steal from Glass and a lay-up from Sebald.
 
Gannon was in control the rest of the way to ear the 72-58 final score. The Lady Knights finished shooting 41.9 percent from the floor, slightly lower than Clarion's 42.6 percent.
 
Four Lady Knights reached double digits in scoring, led by Jen Papich's (Pittsburg, Pa. / Fox Chapel) 17 points. She also added five rebounds, and five steals during the effort.
 
McCoy added 13 points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting. She nailed three long-range shots, with three rebounds and a steal.
 
Lowe finished with 12 points and three rebounds while Mollie Sebald added 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
 
The Lady Knights improved to 13-3 overall with a 10-2 record in conference. Clarion fell to 4-12 overall with a 3-9 record in the PSAC.
 
The Lady Knights will return to the court on Wednesday, when they host Slippery Rock at the Hammermill on Wednesday, January 25.
