ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's basketball team earned another big win in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Friday night at the Hammermill Center. The Lady Knights toppled Cheyney 75-30, opening the season with a sixth straight win.

For the third time this season the Lady Knights reached double digits in scoring before their opponent netted their first point. Friday's 22-0 lead over Cheyney marked the largest of the season after opening with big leads against Penn State Greater Allegheny (19-0) and Kutztown (15-0).

Caitlyn Lowe (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) opened Friday's game the same way she ended Saturday's 68-66 win over West Chester; draining a three. The senior guard then hit long range shots at the 17:12 and 16:32 marks of the first half, leading the Lady Knights to a 13-0 lead.

Kelsey McCoy (Sylvania, Ohio / Northview), Nettie Blake (Jersey City, N.J. / Marist) and Brittany Batts (Leesburg, Va. / Loudoun County) all added buckets before Alexis Peterson hit a pair of free throws for the Wolves to make the score 22-2 with 12:02 left to play in the half.

The Lady Knights then started a 14-2 run at the 11:09 mark with Blake and Jen Papich (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Fox Chapel) each adding baskets during the six-minute span. Lowe continued to stay hot, adding another pair of long-range shots during Gannon's scoring run.

Cheyney closed the half with some momentum, building a 10-3 run during the final four minutes of the half. Tamara Russell added a three while Nadirah Brown added two points on a lay-up.

However, the Wolves went cold to start the second half, allowing the Lady Knights to start another big scoring run. This time Gannon rolled of 25 points to take a 70-19 lead. Cheyney didn't score their first point of the second half until Russell hit a jumper with 6:41 left in the game. The Wolves added nine more points during the half, while Gannon added three to account for the 75-30 final.

The Lady Knights dominated the scoresheet, holding advantages in blocks (7-1), assists (23-7) and turnovers (30-14). Gannon shot 45.8 percent for the game after finishing the first half hitting 57 percent of their shots. The Lady Knights limited Cheyney to a 22.2 shooting percentage for the game.

Lowe's offensive output in the first half led to a game-high 21 points. She was 8-of-17 from the floor, also grabbing four steals. Blake narrowly missed her third double-double of the season, pouring in 16 points and grabbing nine rebounds. She sunk seven of her 10 shots during the win and blocked a pair of shots.

Kelley Sundberg (Mansfield, Conn. / E.O. Smith) was also close to the double-double feat, finishing with 11 assists and seven points. The sophomore point guard was 5-of-6 from the free throw line, while also grabbing four rebounds and finishing with three steals.

McCoy also finished in double digits with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting. The junior forward had four rebounds, two blocks and an assist.

Brown led Cheyney, netting 14 of the team's 30 points. She was 6-of-15 from the floor, while grabbing nine boards.
