CLEVELAND, Ohio – Michelle Fischl's (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) school-record swim in the 200-yard backstroke, seven event championships and 24 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times highlighted a solid day for the Gannon swimming and diving teams Saturday afternoon at the Case Western Quad-Meet.

The Gannon women's team went 2-1 during the quad-meet, out-swimming Case Western (206.5-100.5) and Grove City (177-133). The Lady Knights' lone setback was a two-point (147.5-145.5) decision against Kenyon. The Gannon men's squad dropped all three match-ups against Case Western (207-81), Grove City (177-111) and Kenyon (176-82).

Gannon captured six gold medals during the women's competition. Fischl headlined the action, breaking the school record in the 200-yard backstroke. The freshman touched the wall first in two minutes and 8.45 seconds, beating the old mark by one-tenth of a second and finishing over three seconds quicker than the next swimmer.

Fischl was one of three double-winners as she swam the second leg for the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team. She joined Kaitlyn Bosy (Courtice, Ontario/Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary), Jacqueline Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) to post a winning time of one minute and 39.81 seconds. In addition to her two titles, Fischl also produced conference-qualifying times while placing third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.22) and fourth in the 200-yard IM (2:14.23).

Joseph joined Fischl as a double-winner. In addition to serving as the anchor on the 200-yard freestyle relay team, the freshman earned her individual gold medal with a PSAC-qualifying time in the 100-yard freestyle (53.70). She added two more conferences times during a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.69) and a third-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.84).

Diana Rocco (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) completed Gannon's trio of double-winners by sweeping the diving competition. The senior accomplished the feat by scoring 228.05 points in the one-meter dive and 246.20 points in the three-meter dive.

Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) picked up the women's final championship when she beat the competition in the 200-yard breaststroke for the second time this season. She stopped the clock at a PSAC-qualifying time of two minutes and 27.17 seconds. The sophomore secured a second medal with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (PSAC-qualifying, 1:08.85).

Gannon rounded out its 14 top-three finishes with bronze medals going to Christina Ruggiero (Williamsville, N.Y./Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart) in the 1,650-yard freestyle (PSAC-qualifying, 18:19.71), Rzymek in the 100-yard butterfly (PSAC-qualifying, 1:00.48), Janelle McDaniel (Edwardsville, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:10.43) and Steph Graham (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) in the 200-yard butterfly (PSAC-qualifying, 2:14.05).

Four more women's conference-qualifying times were met during Saturday's action. Amanda Knapp (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) produced two of those times in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.76) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.70). Bosy met the standard in the 200-yard freestyle (7th, 2:00.75) and Colleen Harriger (Erie, Pa./McDowell) did the same in the 200-yard butterfly (6th, 2:18.02).

The men's action was highlighted by four top-three finishes and nine PSAC-qualifying times. Alex Dovale (Cape Town, South Africa/South African College) was the lone champion with a conference-qualifying time of 2:00.39 in the 200-yard butterfly.

Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) both captured a silver medal and produced a pair of PSAC-qualifying times. Chase posted qualifying times while finishing second in the 100-yard butterfly (52.02) and fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (21.91). Chrzanowski countered with times during a second-place performance in the 500-yard freestyle (4:52.01) and a fourth-place effort in the 200-yard freestyle (1:46.20).

Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) rounded out the men's top-three finishes when he touched the wall third in the 200-yard butterfly.
