Gannon Swimming and Diving Teams Close Homestand Friday Evening Against Allegheny

The Gannon swimming and diving teams will get one more chance to perform in front of the home crowd, before their next three events take place on the road.
ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon women's and men's swimming and diving teams conclude a season-opening homestand Friday, November 11 against Allegheny at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion. Action is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.

Please note the start time of 5 p.m. The meet was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. prior to the start of the season, but has since been moved up one hour.

Friday's meet represents Gannon's fourth home event in the first three weeks of the season. The program will only have one more home event the rest of the season, hosting Fredonia State on December 9.

The Gannon women's team brings a 3-2 dual-meet record into Friday's showdown. The Lady Knights have posted victories against Assumption (Mass.) (84-38), Lake Erie (113-9) and Le Moyne (76-28). Setbacks have come against Indiana (Pa.) (115-103) and California (Pa.) (50-45). The early season success also includes the program's third consecutive championship at the Westminster (Pa.) Relay Meet on October 28.

Katie Joseph (McDonald, Ohio/McDonald) has won a team-high 10 events during the first three weeks of the season, including three individual championships and seven relay titles. Among the results have been NCAA “B” cut times in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle. She was also part of the 800-yard freestyle relay team that broke the relay meet record at the Westminster (Pa.) Relay Meet.

Michelle Fischl (Greensburg, Pa./Greensburg Salem) has recorded five Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying times this season. Katie Vincent (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) and Jacqueline Rzymek (Erie, Pa./McDowell) have posted four and three qualifying times, respectively.

The Allegheny women's team is 0-2 in dual meets this season, falling to Grove City (162-111) and Westminster (Pa.) (169-110). The Gators initially opened the season with a fifth-place finish out of six teams at the Kenyon Relays.

Allegheny won the 1,000-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle against Westminster. Senior Christine Smith touched the wall first in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:59.27.

Sophomore Lauren Krowitz had another in-season best with time of 2:43.14 in the 200-yard breaststroke and a time of 2:27.68 in the 200-yard IM. Freshman Liz Profeta swam a career-best 11:20.65 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, shaving an astonishing 18 seconds off of her time from the previous week.

The Gannon men's team is red hot with a perfect 3-0 dual-meet record this season. The Golden Knights have defeated Indiana (Pa.) (118-87), Lake Erie (140-100) and Le Moyne (108-70) during their early-season success. The run also includes the program's third consecutive team title at the Westminster (Pa.) Relay Meet on October 28.

Nick Wolhaupter (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) has won five of the six individual races he has participated in this season, producing PSAC-qualifying times in all six. In addition, he has been part of three relay championship teams. His team's performance in the 3X100 butterfly relay event at the Westminster (Pa.) Relay Meet broke a meet record.

Adam Chrzanowski (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) has been just as good, recording five conference-qualifying times en route to six individual titles. The only individual event he hasn't won resulted in a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle against Lake Erie. The freshman also took part in three relay title swims.

Ethan Chase (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) and Jared Griffard (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene) have added four and three PSAC-qualifying swims, respectively.

The Allegheny men's team has been perfect in dual action this season, knocking off Grove City (162-118) and Westminster (Pa.) (161-127). The Gators kicked off the season with a fourth-place finish out of seven teams at the Kenyon Relays.

Allegheny won all but four events during its last outing at Westminster. The Gators finished one-two in three events; the 1,000-yard freestyle, the 200-yard breaststroke and the 500-yard freestyle.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team was a strong event for Allegheny as senior Mirno Pasquali led off the race with a 48.42 time, just seven-tenths off his best shaved and tapered time. The men eventually won the event with a time of 3:16.44, over four seconds better than second place.

Pasquali set a personal best with a time of 1:46.04 in the 200-yard freestyle and set a pool record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of one minute and 54.98 seconds.
