Sharbaugh Sets Single-Season Records for Points and Goals as Gannon Women's Soccer Team Shuts Out Mercyhurst 5-0; Post-Game Interviews Available

Senior Amanda Sharbaugh is now Gannon's all-time leader in career goals, career points, single-season goals and single-season points.

ERIE, Pa. – Seniors Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) and Katie Urban (Columbia Station, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) combined to score three times as the Gannon women's soccer team shut out rival Mercyhurst 5-0 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at a frigid Gannon University Field.

Gannon's victory in the regular-season finale helped capture the seventh seed for this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Postseason Tournament. It will represent the Lady Knights' third post-season appearance in the last four seasons. Both Gannon and Bloomsburg finished with 22 points, but the Lady Knights won the tiebreaker based on their 2-1 victory against Edinboro earlier in the season.

As a result, Gannon will travel to second seed Kutztown for a PSAC quarterfinal match scheduled for Tuesday, November 1. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m. The Golden Bears defeated the Lady Knights 4-1 on September 10 at Gannon University Field. The winner moves into next weekend's PSAC Final Four hosted by the highest remaining seed.

Gannon dominated Saturday's contest throughout. The Lady Knights out-shot its rival 23-5, including an 11-2 edge in the first 45 minutes. Justine Rodrigues (Georgetown, Ontario/Georgetown District) opened the scoring 9:09 into the contest. Sharbaugh started the play with a pass from the left side. Michelle Genetin (Navarre, Ohio/Perry) then tapped the pass to Rodrigues, who scored her fifth goal of the season.

Urban completely swung the momentum into Gannon's favor with her first goal of the season. The senior midfielder lofted a ball from 35 yards out perfectly over the Mercyhurst goalkeeper's outstretched arms for a 2-0 lead with 1:30 left in the first half.

Head coach Colin Petersen's squad poured it on after the half. One year after dropping a 7-1 decision at Mercyhurst, the Lady Knights netted three second-half goals to run away with the contest.

Genetin extended the lead to 3-0 with a solo effort in the 53rd minute. The freshman's initial header bounced off the post. When the Mercyhurst goalkeeper was unable to get to the ball, Genetin kicked the rebound into the net for her third goal of the season.

Less than five minutes later, Sharbaugh scored an unassisted goal. She then completed the scoring by redirecting a Sarah Deck (Hamilton, Ontario/Bishop Ryan Catholic S.S.) crossing pass into the goal while sliding in the 84th minute.

Sharbaugh broke Gannon's single-season record for points (39) while assuming sole possession of the school's single-season record for goals (17) Saturday afternoon. In the process, she added to her school career records for goals (51) and points (124). Her 22nd career assist on Gannon's first goal brought her within one of Courtney Rowan's (2005-08) school record.

Maggie Brinkman (Clarence Center, N.Y./Clarence) recorded two saves between the pipes during her final collegiate home match. In addition to a 23-5 edge in shots, Gannon earned a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Gannon completed the regular season with a 9-4-4 overall record and 6-4-4 PSAC mark. Mercyhurst dropped to 7-10-1 overall and 4-9-1 in conference play. Saturday's victory was the Lady Knights' second in their last three match-ups against the Lakers.
