The Gannon women's basketball team will open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division play on Wednesday when the Lady Knights travel to Indiana (Pa.) for a 5:30 p.m. game.
Gannon sits at 7-4 after finishing PSAC crossover play with a 2-2 record. The Lady Knights defeated both Cheyney and No. 17 Millersville but fell to West Chester and Shippensburg. Gannon's leading scorer this season is
Caitlyn Lowe, (Gettysburg, Pa. / Gettysburg) who is averaging 12.5 points. The junior guard scored 24 points in the win over Cheyney last week.
IUP has rolled off six straight wins including a perfect 4-0 record in crossover play.
IUP out-scored PSAC East opponents 315-186 in the four games. The Crimson Hawks lead the PSAC in scoring defense (55.5), scoring margin (+16.0) and turnover margin (+9.25). IUP has three players who average more than 12 points per game.
IUP leads the all-time series 11-9, but the Lady Knights hold a 7-3 record in games played at Memorial Field House. The two squads met up four times during the 2008-09 season. They split the regular season series, before IUP knocked Gannon out of the PSAC Tournament. The Lady Knights wasted little time in avenging the loss, defeating the Crimson Hawks in the NCAA Tournament.
