Gannon Men's Soccer Improves to 3-1 With Win Over Alderson-Broaddus

Senior Evan Chate had two goals in the Golden Knight victory.
Philippi, W.Va. - A pair of goals by Evan Chate (Vendays-Montalivet, France / Odilon Redon) led the Golden Knights to a 3-1 victory over Alderson-Broaddus Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights opened the scoring early with a Tyler Hollingsworth (Johannesburg, South Africa / St. David's Marist Inanda) goal less than five minutes into the game. Hollingsworth's first goal of the season found the top right corner of the goal after a crossing pass from Afrim Latifi (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep).

The Battlers evened the score with 25:08 left in the first half with a Robert Carter goal. The Golden Knights would open the second half by quickly breaking the tie, again scoring less than five minutes into the half. Chate scored unassisted stealing the ball after a bad pass from the Battler's goalkeeper.

Chate's second goal of the day came less than four minutes later after Gannon was awarded a penalty kick when Hollingsworth was taken down in the box. Chate lined up the kick and fired the ball into the back of the net. Chate's first career goal came in a 2-1 victory over Alderson-Broaddus last season. The two goals for Chate equal his previous career total.

Gannon goalkeeper Michael Kickel (Erie, Pa. / Cathedral Prep) had six saves in the game. The Golden Knights were called offsides just once compared to the Battler's eight.

Gannon wins its third straight match, improving to 3-1 on the season. Alderson-Broaddus falls to 0-2 on the season. The Golden Knights return home to host a soccer doubleheader against California (Pa.) with the women's game scheduled for 4:00 p.m. and the men's game slated for 6:00 p.m on Wednesday, September 15.
