Sophomore Rachel DerCola recorded two goals Monday afternoon against Mercyhurst.
ERIE, Pa. - Mercyhurst snapped a 10-10 tie on Kayla Minner's game-winning goal with 5:44 left in regulation and Gannon had a key turnover in the final minute as the Lakers held off the Lady Knights 11-10 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division battle Monday afternoon at Tullio Field.

Mercyhurst jumped out a 3-0 lead 6:27 into the contest, before Gannon assumed a 5-4 advantage by scoring five of the next six goals. Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) tied the contest at four with her second goal of the half. Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) then gave the Lady Knights their first lead of the afternoon, scoring with 10:57 showing on the clock.

The remainder of the match turned into a slugfest as neither team was able to produce a lead larger than two goals the rest of the way. The Millerd-Eshenour combo struck again late in the first half. The duo netted back-to-back goals, giving the Lady Knights a 7-6 edge with 1:58 left in the first half.

However, Mercyhurst rallied with two Kimberly Masterson scores in the final 1:13 to take an 8-7 advantage into the break.

The home team opened a 10-8 lead on Melissa Leonhard's unassisted goal at the 20:50 mark of the second half. Caitlyn Fisher's (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) only score of the match with 16:02 left cut the deficit in half. Millerd's fourth tally of the afternoon knotted the contest at 10 with 6:28 to play.

Forty-four seconds later, Minner scored the game-winning goal on a free-position shot. Gannon had several chances to tie the contest in the final five minutes, but Mercyhurst goalkeeper Maeve McGoff made two critical saves. The Lady Knights then turned the ball over in front of the net with 1:12 to play to seal the deal.

Millerd led the Gannon scoring attack with four goals. Eshenour and Rachel DerCola (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) netted two goals each. Fisher and Jess Fugate (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) completed the scoring with one goal apiece.

Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) dished out all four Gannon assists. Acacia Cook (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) made six saves in goal, including five in the first half.

Gannon dropped to 7-6 overall and 3-4 in the PSAC West with its third straight loss. Mercyhurst improved to 12-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play. The Lady Knights return to action Thursday, April 15 at Indiana (Pa.). Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
