No. 9 Gannon Women's Lacrosse Team Extends Win Streak to Three With 21-8 Decision at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. - The No. 9 Gannon women's lacrosse team scored the first five goals and ended the first half on an 11-2 run en route to a 21-8 victory at Edinboro Wednesday afternoon before a sun-drenched crowd at Sox Harrison Stadium.

Four different Lady Knights scored during the opening 5-0 blitz. Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) capped the run with back-to-back goals 38 seconds apart.

Edinboro rallied with three consecutive goals of its own, cutting the deficit to 5-3 with 22:11 left in the first half. However, Gannon put the outcome to bed early with 11 of the period's last 13 goals.

Sarah Grzybinski's (New Market, Md./Linganore) goal with 34 seconds showing on the clock sent Gannon into the break with a 16-5 edge. Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) scored four times in the first 30 minutes. Eshenour, Rachel DerCola (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) and Molly SanJule (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) all recorded hat tricks in the first half.

The second half was played on even terms as Gannon held a slight 5-3 edge in scoring. Caitlyn Fisher (Cypress, Texas/Cy-Fair) tallied her second goal of the season and Sabrina McMaster (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood) produced her fifth in the final 10 minutes.

DerCola led Gannon's offensive unit with three goals, a team-high eight assists and a team-high 11 points. Millerd was the Lady Knights' leading scorer with four goals. The senior midfielder also dished out two assists.

SanJule and Eshenour added three scores each. Jess Fugate (Wooster, Ohio/Wooster) and Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) chipped in two goals and two assists apiece. Grzybinski found the back of the net twice.

Acacia Cook (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) reached double digits in saves for the fifth time this season, turning away 11 shots. Alexa Walnoha (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) played the final 17:34 in goal.

Gannon improved to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with its third consecutive victory. Edinboro dropped to 2-7 overall and 0-4 in conference play. The Lady Knights return to action Thursday, April 1 against Slippery Rock at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 5 p.m.
