Gannon and Mercyhurst Renew Women's Lacrosse Rivalry Saturday Afternoon

The Gannon women's lacrosse team will attempt to stop Mercyhurst's five-match win streak Saturday afternoon at home.
ERIE, Pa. - Gannon and Mercyhurst will renew their women's lacrosse rivalry Saturday, March 20 with a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Both teams enter Saturday's contest among the nation's best. Gannon is ranked 10th in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national rankings. Mercyhurst is tabbed fifth.

Gannon is 3-2 overall and 0-1 in the PSAC Western Division. The Lady Knights saw their three-match win streak snapped Wednesday afternoon with an 18-6 loss at second-ranked Lock Haven. The squad had previously defeated Erskine (23-0), Belmont Abbey (18-11) and Notre Dame (Ohio) (14-4).

Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y./Midlakes) leads the offensive charge with 14 goals, eight assists and 22 points. Mary Eshenour (Waterloo, N.Y./Waterloo) and Krista Schunk (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) follow with 13 and 12 goals, respectively.

Kayla Nelson (Oswego, N.Y./Oswego) has been Gannon's top set-up player with 11 assists. Acacia Cook (Syracuse, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) has started every match in goal, producing a 10.4 goals against average and .458 save percentage.

Mercyhurst brings an unblemished record into Saturday's rivalry, spotting a perfect 5-0 overall mark and 1-0 conference slate. The Lakers have averaged 19.6 goals in their first five matches and have produced a 13.0 scoring margin.

Kimberly Masterson and Kristie Jennings are tied for the team's scoring lead with 15 goals each. Ally Keirn and Kelly Palmer have added 14 goal apiece. Maeve McGoff is 5-0 in goal with a 4.87 goals against average and .600 save percentage.
