EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The Gannon women's soccer team rallied from a two-goal deficit in the second half, but East Stroudsburg answered with the game-winning goal in the 84th minute as the Warriors posted a 3-2 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
East Stroudsburg owned a 2-0 halftime lead after scoring on an own goal 13:13 into the match and on Bridget Connell's tally in the 32nd minute. The Warriors out-shot the Lady Knights 9-3 in the first 45 minutes.
Gannon rallied in the second half.
Emily Martin (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) scored her first career goal in the 54th minute, finishing a pass from
Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch).
Andrea Eisenhart (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) then knotted the match at two with 9:07 left in regulation. The unassisted tally was her second goal in the last two contests.
However, East Stroudsburg regained the lead as quick as it evaporated. Two minutes and 25 seconds after Gannon tied the match, Connell found the back of the net for the second time. Her score off a Breanne Ingargiola pass with 6:42 remaining provided the winning cushion.
East Stroudsburg out-shot Gannon 14-9 and held a slight 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Sabrina Chirco (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded eight saves in defeat.
Gannon dropped to 3-5-2 overall and 2-5-1 in the PSAC. East Stroudsburg improved to 4-5-1 overall and 3-5 in conference play. The Lady Knights return to action Saturday, October 9 against Indiana (Pa.) at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
