CALIFORNIA, Pa. - The Gannon University women's soccer team fell at California (Pa.) 3-1 Tuesday.
Katie Urban (Columbia Station, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) scored the Lady Knights' goal.
Cal, ranked 10th in NCAA Division II and first in the National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association (NSCAA) Atlantic Regional Rankings, jumped out to an early lead on its home field. The Vulcans scored in the 7th minute and added a second goal at the 20:15 mark of the first half.
Urban put GU on the board in the 29th minute with her first goal of the season. Freshman
Ashley Oluschak (Butler, Pa./Butler) assisted on the score.
Cal regained its two-goal edge with a score in the 32nd minute of the half. Neither team scored in the second frame.
Sabrina Chirco (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) made 11 saves in a losing effort for Gannon, while Cal's Paula Jackson recorded five saves for the win.
GU drops to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West. California is 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The Knights travel to Lock Haven Saturday, September 12. The match is set for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
