ERIE, Pa. - Gannon and Seton Hill combined to take 39 shots, but could only muster eight on goal as the two teams battled to a scoreless tie Sunday afternoon in men's soccer action at Gannon University Field.
The first half was contested on even terms as both teams took eight shots. Gannon only put one of its eight shots on goal, while
Steven Boehmer (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) was forced to make four saves in the first 45 minutes for the Golden Knights.
Gannon had a slight edge in shots (10-6) during the final 45 minutes of regulation, but Seton Hill had the best scoring opportunity. Mike Pistentis got behind the Gannon defense in the 84th minute, but Boehmer was able to stop him cold on an uncontested shot.
Jonathan Garrick-Whiley (Mississauga, Ontario/Loyola Catholic S.S.) had the best scoring chance in overtime. His scoring attempt off a loose ball from 10 yards out in the second overtime session was blocked by a Seton Hill defender when the right side of the net appeared open.
Gannon finished with a 23-16 edge in shots while Seton Hill posted an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks. The contest featured 28 fouls and seven yellow cards.
Seton Hill moved to 1-0-1 with the tie while Gannon's record is now 0-1-1. The Golden Knights return to action Wednesday, September 2 against the District of Columbia at Gannon University Field. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
