WASHINGTON, Pa. - The Gannon baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at California (Pa.) Sunday afternoon. Cal won 11-5 and 5-2 to complete a four-game weekend sweep.
The Vulcans scored three runs in each of the first two innings to take an early first game edge. Down 7-0, the Golden Knights scored in the bottom of the third inning when
Kolten Hoffman (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) drove in two runs with a single through the left side.
Frank Jagoda (Dunkirk, N.Y./Dunkirk Senior) had a two-run double in the sixth as well.
Tim Lipp (Beaver Falls, Pa./Blackhawk) went 3-4 with two runs scored and Hoffman had two hits and three RBIs.
Peter Grouios (Toronto, Ontario/East York Collegiate Institute) threw 2 2/3 innings of solid relief, allowing no runs on four hits.
In the second game, Cal broke open a 1-1 game with four runs in the fifth inning. Jagoda gave GU a brief lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the fourth frame.
Lipp had two hits and scored a run.
Kyle Harpster (Erie, Pa./McDowell) recorded two hits and a run scored.
Greg Radwan (Farnham, N.Y./St. Francis) went six innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out four.
Gannon drops to 4-25 overall and 2-12 in the PSAC. Cal is 25-7 overall and 10-2 in league play.
The Knights will face Penn State Beaver in a doubleheader Monday, April 6. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
