Gannon Women's Basketball Team Rolls Past Former GLIAC Foe Ferris State in Home Opener

Senior Carrie Nolan extended her streak of consecutive games with at least one three-pointer to 37 games during Friday's home opener.
ERIE, Pa. - Carrie Nolan (Girard, Pa./Girard) and Kristina Freeman (Yonkers, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) combined for 37 points as the 19th-ranked Gannon women's basketball team remained undefeated Friday night with an 85-57 victory over Ferris State at the Hammermill Center.

Gannon remained undefeated at 6-0 with Friday's victory and became one of only three women's teams in school history to start a season with six consecutive victories. In the process, the Lady Knights extended their regular-season win streak to 16 games.

The contest between former Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foes remained tight for the first five minutes, before Gannon used a 14-2 run to assume a 25-11 lead.

Tiffany Crocker's (Dublin, Ohio/Dublin Coffman) three-pointer kick-started the run which included four different scorers. A Nolan three-pointer sandwiched between two Amanda Dacek (Middleburg Heights, Ohio/Berea) baskets capped the blitz with 10:40 left in the first half.

The home team's lead hovered around the 16-point margin for the remainder of the half until Caitlyn Lowe's (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) bomb with three seconds left in the first stanza sent the Lady Knights to the intermission with their biggest lead at 49-27.

Nolan opened the final 20 minutes with another three-pointer and Gannon was never threatened the rest of the way. The Lady Knights built their biggest lead of the night to 73-38 on Julie Kleber's (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) lay-up at the 9:09 mark, before settling for an 85-57 victory.

Nolan led all scorers with a season-high 19 points, hitting 5-of-8 shots from the field and 4-of-6 three-point attempts. The senior guard extended her streak of consecutive games with at least one three-pointer to 37.

Freeman was the only other Lady Knight in double digits with 18 points, finishing almost perfect from the field with a 7-of-8 chart. Dacek and Brittany Tabron (Canton, Ohio/Canton Central Catholic) added eight points each.

Gannon shot 48.3 percent (29-60) from the field, including a scorching 53.6-percent (15-28) clip in the first half. The Lady Knights shot 46.2 percent (12-26) from three-point range and 75 percent (15-20) from the free throw line.

Tiara Adams was the only Ferris State player to break the double-digit plateau. The junior forward recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and four steals. Lindsey Pettit and Leah Kebler chipped in eight points each off the bench.

Ferris State shot 40.8 percent (20-49) from the floor, 5.9 percent (1-17) from behind the arc and 72.7 percent (16-22) from the charity stripe.

Gannon improved to 6-0 with Friday's victory. The decision snapped a six-game losing streak against the Bulldogs and was the Lady Knights' first win in the series since an 82-74 home victory in 2002-03. The 28-point margin of victory was the largest in the 15-game series between the two programs. Ferris State dropped to 0-1.

The Lady Knights return to action November 26-28 at the North Star Invitational hosted by Alaska Fairbanks. The squad opens the three-day tournament Thanksgiving night (November 26) against Alaska Fairbanks at 11 p.m. eastern time.
