No. 5 Millersville Rallies for 3-2 Men's Soccer Victory at Gannon

Senior Zane Pollack scored his first career goal during Saturday's loss to No. 5 Millersville.
ERIE, Pa. - It was a tale of two halves. The Gannon and Millersville men's soccer teams each dominated a half, but it was the visiting Marauders who scored more during their spirited play. No. 5 Millersville rallied from a 2-0 deficit with three second-half goals and escaped Gannon University Field Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 victory.

The first half belonged to Gannon. The Golden Knights out-shot Millersville 12-4 in the first 45 minutes and led 2-0 at halftime. Zane Polack (Bowling Green, Ohio/Bowling Green) started the scoring in the 18th minute with his first career goal.

Dan Howell (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) increased the advantage to 2-0 with his seventh goal of the campaign off a corner kick in the 34th minute. Evan Chate (Vendays-Montalivet, France/Odilon Redon) assisted on both scores.

The momentum took a swing in the opposite direction immediately upon the teams' return to the field for the second half. Millersville tied the match with two goals in the span of five minutes and 45 seconds. The Marauders' leading scorer Kyle Loughlin netted the first one in the 52nd minute.

Matt Wilson then tied the game in the 58th minute with his third goal of the season. Millersville started the play by kicking the ball into the box from the midfield. Following confusion between the Gannon defense and goalkeeper, Wilson took a loose ball and scored into an empty net.

The visitors scored the game-winner in the 76th minute when Loughlin slipped past the Gannon defense 20 yards in front of the net. The junior forward slid and kicked in a nice pass from Thomas Bargmann into the net for the game-winner.

Millersville out-shot Gannon 17-15, including a 13-3 edge in the second half. The Golden Knights had a slight 5-3 edge in corner kicks. Steven Boehmer (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) recorded five saves between the pipes.

Gannon dropped to 3-7-2 while extending its winless streak to five matches. Millersville, ranked No. 5 nationally and No. 1 in the Atlantic region, improved to 9-1. The Golden Knights return to action Wednesday, October 7 at Wheeling Jesuit. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
