Lady Knight Soccer Grounds Clarion 2-0 Saturday Night

Tenyka Francique scored two goals in Gannon's 2-0 win at Clarion Saturday. The freshman leads the team with 12 goals in 2009.
CLARION, Pa.-Tenyka Francique (Brampton, Ontario/International) scored two goals as the Gannon women's soccer team beat Clarion 2-0 Saturday night. Sabrina Chirco (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) posted a shutout in goal for the Lady Knights. 

Francique scored at the 48:29 mark, finishing on a pass from Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) to put GU up 1-0. Fifty-seven seconds later, Francique beat Clarion goalkeeper Jenna Kulik on a penalty kick. 

Chirco stopped four shots for her fourth shutout of the season. It was also the senior's 12th career blanking, moving her alone into second place on the all-time shutout list at Gannon. Tiffani Parks recorded 13 shutouts from 2004-2007 for the Knights. 

The teams played evenly in the first half, as each side recorded five shots. Gannon outshot the Eagles 3-0 in the second half. 

GU improved to 9-5-1 overall and 7-4-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West. Clarion is 4-12-2 overall and 0-11-1 in the league. 

Gannon hosts Edinboro Wednesday, October 28, at 7 p.m. The Knights are fourth in the Western Division, while the Fighting Scots are in sixth place, four points behind GU.
