ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon men's soccer team won its second consecutive match with a 2-0 shutout of Lock Haven at a freezing Gannon University Field Saturday evening.
Afrim Latifi (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) netted both Gannon goals, recording his eighth career multiple-goal performance. The junior forward scored the first goal off a header with 9:14 remaining in the first half, sending the Golden Knights to halftime with a 1-0 advantage.
Evan Chate (Vendays-Montalivet, France/Odilon Redon) recorded his sixth assist of the season on the play.
The Erie, Pa., native then added an insurance goal with 4:58 remaining in regulation.
Dan Howell (Erie, Pa./Iroquois) began the play by hitting Latifi with a nice pass behind the defense. Latifi beat the Lock Haven goalkeeper at the 10-yard line and scored into an empty net.
Steven Boehmer (Dayton, Ohio/Carroll) made Latifi's two goals hold up. The senior goalkeeper recorded six saves while recording his second shutout this season and 11th of his career. His biggest saves came on point-blank shots by Colin Callaghan in the 75th minute and Kevin Wolfe in the final minute.
Gannon out-shot Lock Haven 26-12 and held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks. The Golden Knights improved to 5-8-2 overall and 2-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with Saturday's shutout. Lock Haven dropped to 5-8-2 overall and 1-6 in conference play. Head coach
