Tyler Stoczynski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and
George Johnson (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) both posted season-highs in scoring as the Gannon men's basketball team routed Lock Haven 90-53 Saturday night before 1,181 fans at the Hammermill Center.
The two teams battled toe-to-toe for the majority of the first half. Lock Haven only trailed 16-15 after Warren Christian's jumper with 7:34 left in the first half. However, Gannon ended the half with a 18-4 run to assume a 34-19 lead at the intermission.
Gannon then opened the second half with a 21-6 run. Johnson's three-point play with 14:55 left in the game put the Golden Knights in front, 55-25.
Preston Harris' (Erie,Pa./Cathedral Prep) free throw at the 2:28 mark accounted for Gannon's largest lead of the evening at 85-47.
Corey Dotchin (Cranberry Township, Pa./Vincentian Academy) hit three free throws with three seconds left to a produce the final 90-53 score.
Stoczynski led all scorers with 21 points, hitting 7-of-11 shots and 7-of-8 free throws. Johnson netted 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting.
Pierre Howard (Chicago, Ill./Bloom) chipped in 10 markers.
Gannon shot 48.4 percent (31-64) from the field, 38.5 percent (5-13) from three-point range, and 85.2 percent (23-27) from the free throw line.
Bill Arre led four Bald Eagles in double digits with 12 points. Christian, Kelvin McLean, and David Blackwell scored 10 points each.
Lock Haven shot 43.5 percent (20-46) from the floor, 22.2 percent (2-9) from behind arc, and 57.9 percent (11-19) from the charity stripe.
Gannon, ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division II and second in the initial NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings, improved to 16-2 overall and 5-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Westerm Division with its fifth consecutive victory. Lock Haven dropped to 3-16 overall and 1-5 in conference play with its 15th consecutive road loss. The Golden Knights return to action Wednesday, February 4 at archrival Mercyhurst. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
