Lady Knights Roll to 7-0 Road Victory

Heather Patterson scored twice in the Lady Knights' 7-0 win.
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Gannon University women's soccer team picked up a road victory Sunday with an easy 7-0 win at Pitt-Johnstown. Heather Patterson (Baden, Pa./Ambridge Area) and Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) scored two goals each and Sabrina Chirco (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) recorded her fifth shutout of the season.

Patterson made sure GU (6-2-1) got off to a good start Sunday, as she scored twice in the first 15 minutes. The second goal came off a corner kick from Courtney Rowan (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame Cathedral Latin). With the helper, Rowan moved into a second-place tie for career assists at Gannon with 18. Joy Pelger had the same total from 1998-2001 at GU.

The Lady Cats (2-7) stayed in it for the rest of the half, but Gannon took over early in the second frame. Sharbaugh scored twice in the 59th minute, with the second being a header off an assist from Patterson. Katy Lynn (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) added her third goal of the season in the 67th minute off a Colleen Schwarz (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville) assist.

Rowan then matched Sharbaugh for the team lead with her sixth goal in the 72nd minute off a Lynn pass. Andrea Eisenhart (East Liverpool, Ohio/Beaver Local) finished the scoring with her first collegiate goal at the 77:44 mark. Shannon Hess (Erie, Pa./McDowell), another freshman, assisted on the score.

Chirco made three saves to get her sixth win of the year. She has allowed just eight goals in nine matches.

The Lady Knights will host Indiana (Pa.) Wednesday, October 1. The match will kick off at 4 p.m.
