ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon University women's soccer team beat Edinboro 3-0 Wednesday evening at Gannon University Field. The Lady Knights controlled from start to finish and showed why they are ranked seventh in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional rankings.
Senior
Courtney Rowan (Mentor, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) scored twice and assisted on a third goal.
Breanne Radin (Lockwood, N.Y./Spencer-Van Etten) added a goal of her own. Sophomore
Sabrina Chirco (Brampton, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas) made five saves to get her third shutout of the season.
Rowan set up from 25 yards out on a direct kick to open the scoring in the 18th minute. Radin scored off a corner kick, redirecting a loose ball into the back of the net in the 24th minute. Less than a minute into the second half, Rowan scored again, this time from the left side off an assist from freshman forward
Amanda Sharbaugh (Sarver, Pa./Knoch), who had two helpers in the match. Rowan has scored a team-high four goals in 2008 after leading the team last season.
GU (4-1, 4-1 PSAC) out-shot Edinboro (2-4-1, 0-4-1) 23-7. The Lady Knights put 13 shots on goal.
The win puts Gannon into a first place tie with Indiana (Pa.) atop the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West. The two teams will meet October 1 at Gannon University Field.
The Lady Knights will next host Shippensburg Saturday, September 20. The match will kick off at noon.
